About Me

!Jukebox Gypsy 2009 Irish Summer Tour!
The listing for our two month tour in Ireland, in June and July, is now up on www.myspace.com/jukeboxgypsymusic . We will be playing with the great Resurrection Fern, and hopefully grace the presence of many other great musicians in the area.
The album has been recorded and will be released in the summer.
Hope to see you all there!
(older news below)
Jukebox Gypsy are in the studio in Liverpool, +/- 12 tracks are on the way for the debutalbum. Once released, the album will be available through the internet and at shows. Afollow-up tour in Ireland is planned for the summer, including radio and festival shows.
Jukebox Gypsy have recently returned from a two week tour, through the Republic of Ireland. We played the Ruby Sessions in Dublin, the Sky & Ground in Wexford, the Stables inMullingar, Neachtain's in Galway, as well as other venues in Athlone, Cavan, Ballymahon andClonmel.
We owe many thanks to our lovely tour organizer Dave McLynn, of no ego promotions, for setting up two tours, putting us up days on end (Jun.-Aug. & Dec. '08), and introducing us to a group of awesome musicians in Athlone; Hickory Wind, Resurrection Fern and The Driftwood Manor. There are plans for a mega-recording session over the summer, combining talent from all these groups.
I do hope to record and release some solo tracks, at some point, although at the moment I amhappily busy with Jukebox Gypsy.

A little history..
Growing up in Leiden, Netherlands, I played in a number of bands ranging from folk rock to grunge to psychedelic jams. Below is a list of bands that were all formed around a group of high school friends.
THE LAZY DOGS: Isaac Tabor, Valentijn de Leeuw,Thomas Perryman, Bastiaan Tigler (2002) THE TRIP: Thomas Perryman, Isaac Tabor, Jan de Hoog (2002) THE MERLINS: Ben Rider, Valentijn de Leeuw, Philip Lewis (2003) THE MOOCHERS, A-MEN, RUST,too many names: Jan de Hoog, Isaac Tabor, Valentijn de Leeuw, Bastiaan Tigler. (2003) THE REMOTES: Thomas Perryman, Valentijn de Leeuw (2004)
One of Thomas Perryman's songs (drums by Valentijn de Leeuw) has been uploaded to Soundclick. Click to listen to Under the Moon I May Play the Stringless Lute (it has been wrongly labelled as 'artist' Isaac Tabor).
Jan de Hoog, Ben Rider and Valentijn de Leeuw now play in THE NEW AGE PEASANTS . Check em out, they're a sure thing.
We also cut some tracks as a Mars Volta cover band. Click to listen to some cuts by THE VARS MOLTA : Isaac Tabor, Valentijn de Leeuw, Ben Rider, Thomas Perryman, Ferdinand (2006).
Before turning to the current acoustic setup, I played in the Liverpool experimental band Mood Food .
I now play with Jukebox Gypsy , who are Dave Hastie, Ben Blance, Johanna Hillebrand, SimonKnighton and myself. Mixing Jordy and American folk roots, harmonies and live energy, country and folk-rock leads, we hope to blast through this country like a freight train runwild.
In my time in Liverpool (I have recently moved away), I had the pleasure to play with manylocal (although non-scouse) musicians including Alistair Savage, Rob Lewis, Danny and Paulof Metro Manila Aide, Adam and Metty of the Flicks, Faris, Xander and Keith of the PeacePirates, and many others. I was able to experiment with a range of styles, moods, visions. Iam now stuck in the acoustic category, but this will surely change over time.
And finally, if you happen to stumble on this page and like what you hear/read, send me a message. If Im around, Im always up for a jam.

Influences: My influences stretch far and wide, but I grew up with the stuff below. Starting with Jimi Hendrix, I fell into the folk rock pool quite early on. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel, Richie Havens and many more. Check out some of the songs below if you're interested.

Over the last few years I've started to listen to some more contemporary bands and have found an interest in a few experimental scenes. Bands like Hella, Battles, Shellac, Don Caballero, Jaga Jazzist, Enablers, Acid Mothers Temple and Blonde Redhead don't really fit into one particular genre. Thus I have created a somewhat eclectic but captivating playlist (see below) for you to listen to.

Sounds Like: Somewhere in between Neil Young and Richard Manuel. Come to one of the gigs and decide for yourself.
Record Label: Unsigned
