SPECIAL LADY FRIEND started out as a friendship between Aaron Herrera and Rolando Fontalvo. They have been playing music together since 2003: first playing as KoTex (KompanyTexas) for nearly two years. Going through line up changes and not finding a group to perform with. We decided to start fresh in 2005 with a new band SPECIAL LADY FRIEND. This duo started writing songs together.
In November of 2006 we had our first show, a live gig with Cerebro at the Engine Room. Quickly we asked every person that had an instrument to join us. Only two volunteered for our project. So if you got the chance to see that performance. We thank you for giving us a chance.
With lifes ups and downs changes are inevitable. We have gone through 11 line up changes. Most of them coming in 2007. Only Neal Flores stuck with us since his first show with us at Jet Lounge. For the better part of 2008 we kept the band as a trio. At the end of fall 2008 Elijah Kelley joined us. Elijah got to make his first performance at Bohemeos. In February of 2009 Sammy Reyna was added as the drummer.
With this solid core of talent, we are able to give more to the live performances of our songs. In the past, our live shows, had us switching intsruments on stage. We still will be doing this, just not so much on the drums. Sammy is holding it down. This allows Rolando, Neal, Elijah, and Aaron to focus on the singing of our songs.
As a band, we all try and do a little bit of everything. Mostly because we have to and partly to keep the integrity of each song by playing it on the instrument it was written on. We each feel, it's important to put yourself out there and show that you have various talents. Always being able to expand on our music writing, by doing at least a little bit of everything.
