Sounds Like: Ex rhythm section of MikiMoto (1996-2001), Jason Whelpton on drums and Brendon Ehinger on bass have individually been playing in and around Winnipeg since the late 80s. Originally, going by the acronym for their last names (Whelpton and Ehinger) W.E. formed in August 2007 with the intention of exploring different sounds and musical styles using only the bass and the drums. Rather than writing songs with a distinct beginning and ending, W.E. prefer improvising upon themes. Borrowing influences from classic rock, dub reggae, old school punk and NWBHM and often leaning towards the louder, heavier and weirder sounds, W.E. have developed a distinct sound in that they throw all predictability out the window. Allowing songs to shift and flow in and out of each other with minimal predetermined structure, the band rarely utilizes a set list and instead allow the mood and energy of the environment to drive the intensity of their live shows. The songs are often noticeably different from one performance to the next retaining enough of the original composition to retain familiarity.
