Mavis Acquah

About Me

She was born in Amsterdam as an unique blend of cultures: her roots lie in Indonesia and West-Africa, Ghana. Although Mavis was a very shy child, that suddenly changed once she got on stage or in front of a camera. She loved to perform and to express herself by music, dance and play throughout her whole youth. After graduating from the Radboud University Nijmegen Mavis took on the challenge to make honest choices. This meant finally exploring her creative spirit and energy. Following her dreams and passion. Her first step in this direction was entering the Lion King School. Mavis auditioned for the musical The Lion King and was selected to be one of the first pupils of the Lion King School of Joop van den Ende Theater Productions. For a year she developed her acting, dancing and singing skills. This experience almost resulted in a main role in the musical the Lion King. Having developed several skills the lioness felt it was time to explore all her talents: acting, modelling, hosting and singing. Nevertheless singing and music has always been Mavis biggest passion. In 2005 Mavis met producer Pim Kilian, while performing as MC in Paradiso. Their meeting resulted in a variety of demos, influenced by different styles: soul, r&b, jazz, dance. It was Mavis first experience as a songwriter and a good start of a creative process. In her music Mavis shares her life experiences, love experiences, just everything that moves her. The sound of her voice lets you know her character: deep and smooth with a powerful edge to it. Besides writing her own music Mavis works on several projects with some of the most passionate artists and musicians of the Netherlands.Knowing what she is capable of Mavis is more than determined to reach her goal, which is living her dream as an artist. Being her trueself.
