About Me

Writer/Producer/Director/MIDI Geek/Mac & ProTools coach/Keys, Guitar and SingerMaybe you know me as the organist for Chicago's own THE IDES OF MARCH, or from Radio with ERIC AND KATHY on "the Mix", or the KEVIN MATTHEWS show on the old LOOP. (yes I have 2 arms) I was also BRIAN McCANN's sidekick on the LOOP'S "Sunday Funnies" So many of you have asked for "Earls Music" so from time to time I'll put it up for you to download. Is it wrong? My other band is a great pop group called the TONELLI'S which features the wonderful songs and guitar of my cousin BOB STOPPENBACH and his writing partner SCOTT PALMITER (he of the amazing voice)-also glad to be re-united with two of my longtime buddies from Morton HS (and great players to boot) BOB ROCOTELLO on Bass and THOM DYMEK on Drums -check out the Tonellis My Space in my favorites below.I'm proud to be a team member for HAMMOND-SUZUKI who makes the "KING OF INSTRUMENTS".Once in awhile I get to play with BLACK AND BLONDE which features CLIFF JOHNSON from OFF BROADWAY, and MIMI BETINIS, MIKE GORMAN and MICK RAIN from PEZBAND. What a treat!I was also the music director for the last two seasons of "CAROLINE'S COMEDY HOURr" on the A&E network, where I worked with so many great comics like-JOE ROGAN, JANAENE GARAFALO, and the great GILBERT GOTTFRIED. The show won an ACE award after I joined Coinidence?Yeah, that was me (as THE ANGRY CAUCASIAN) on radio and TV nationwide as sidekick to the late, great MORTON DOWNEY JR. I ain't so angry....I am proud to have co-produced albums for two of the funniest guys ever: TIM CAVANAGH and MIKE TOOMEY, along with accompanying them. If you know TIM from the "BOB AND TOM SHOW" -you've heard me backing him up on a bunch of his "ONE MINUTE SONGS".Some of you might also remember me as the "House Band" at the late, great, FUNNY FIRM Comedy Club in Chicago, where I worked with EVERYBODY, including JAY LENO, RAY ROMANO, BILL HICKS, EMO PHILLIPS, KATHLEEN MADIGAN, CHRIS ROCK, PAUL PROVENZA and LARRY MILLER.Or maybe as Music Director for HBO and SHOWTIME specials for the late, great RICH JENI.I'm one-third of the only Power Trio in Comedy-THE MERRY BLUESTERS featuring our fearless leader, the Howlingly funny RON SHOCK,and the great "El Kabong" himself KENNY MOORE. I don't tell the jokes, I play lead guitar. You've got to see it to believe it.Can't forget my years as music slave for JUDY TENUTA, US tours-4 albums (including one grammy-nominated one), 2 TV specials for HBO.I was an ALL-BUBBA and have served time with TEENAGE RADIATION. If you have to ask, you don't need to know. There were also three great bands I was with in the old century: DREAMER, TOUCHE, and the IVORY BROTHERS. You might have a copy of the WLUP "Chicago Rocks Vol.1" LP gathering dust--you'll find me there with Dreamer, and incognito (as Dr. Fulton B. Warehouse) with HOT LUCK. I may have played your wedding or party with THE KIDDERMINSTER BROTHERS or R-GANG.Tons of commercials, McDonalds, Froot Loops, Wolverine, Cellular One, blah blah blah.....I'm also a board member of the CHICAGO AREA THEATRE ORGAN ENTHUSIASTS (CATOE) and proud to be an endorsee for HAMMOND-SUZUKI/LESLIE.Outside of the music world, I'm also a writer and producer-16 Children's titles for the Longhill SHORT MOUNTAINS imprint. I also co-wrote MONEYKEEPING FOR MODERN TIMES with Kathleen Niew. and THE SMARTVISION METHOD with TONY McMAHON Focus Focus Focus, and upcoming is a bio of a Chicago Legend, who must remain nameless, for now. If you buy any musical equipment from ZZOUNDS.COM, you'll probably run into a bunch of my product descriptions. I've scripted a number of Industrial presentations, and all kinds of Websites. I've tuned up sitcom scripts for some of the comedy folks I've worked for, anonymously, of course. And there are more than a few stage and screen treatments fermenting in my storage space. Nowadays, I play the Macintosh keyboard almost as much as the Hammond Organ. In my personal life, I'm married to Chris with 3 wonderful daughters (Stacy, Stephanie and Kelly) and four grandchildren, Bryson, Brittany and Brandon (from Stacy) and Parker (from Kelly). Co-habiting our home-the venerable and stately Breakwind Manor in the Boonies outside of Chicago, are Paco the Chihuahua, Beavis the Bird, Mojo the Snake, the five un-named Fish, the dwarf Hamster named Darla, and over fifty Hermit Crabs that each have their own MySpace. Wait, that last part is a lie-only one has a MySpace. Go figure.

Band Members: ABOUT THE SONGS IN THE PLAYER... "EARLS MUSIC"-The one the only-is it wrong? "HEAVEN SMILED AGAIN"-Written for My Wife, Chris "THE PUZZLE"-My take on what Fleetwood Mac would have sounded like if Bob Welch had joined while Peter Green was still around. Lyrical message not hidden. And, no foolin',-this song was a favorite of the Great Bill Hicks. Ask not... "BOBBY'S SHUFFLE"-In answer to the question-"Can the fat kid play the guitar?" Yeah, that's me doing it all in homage to Rob Koza, Jimmy Casa and Big Tim--Three guys you've never heard of that play guitar better than most everyone else. (although Jim and Tim are jamming with Hendrix now) "MANY ARE THE DAYS"-Written with Jim Peterik, a demo originally for Hugh Panaro who starred in the big-budget Broadway "Lestat". Well, that didn't happen, but the song is still cool, methinks. Sung brilliantly by the redoubtable John Melnick

RICHARD JENI

Totally bummed about losing Rich Jeni. He was the best, and gave me plenty of opportunities. You will be missed, my friend.
