Marie Dance

About Me

originaly from Oxford, England, Marie Dance started out at 16 strumming along to simple songs, playing at open mics to get used to the stage and chose to carry on playing untill she reached a professional standard .

Ater 2 years at Northbrook College studying Music Performance Marie then went on holiday in Thailand, where she met Joe Cumming, a very cultured American guitarist.

After six weeks in Thailand Marie had fallen in love with the counrty and decided to stay and form a band. the band became 'The Tonic Rays'

With joe on Guitar, Sun, a humble Thai bass player and Mark , a rock loving Japanese drummer the tonic rays toured Thailand as an original/cover rock band. Based in Chiang Mai and Pai in the North of Thailand the Tonic Rays also tour places in the South such as: Bangkok, Ko Phi Phi, Ko Lanta and Pattaya

two and a half years and over 150 gigs later the band started recording thier selection of original songs, some of which are on this profile.

BILLBOARD chuck Eddie, a reviewer from the billboard music magazine rated The Tonic Rays album in his list of top ten albums of the year

BLURT magazine review:
In which musicians from the U.S., U.K., and Japan reinvent a rustic, sitar-spiced, and surprisingly catchy species of psychedelic folk-rock that Jefferson Airplane or the Shocking Blue might recognize, in the northern mountains of bassist Chakkapan Wattanapan's native nation Thailand. After opening with one of their most furious stomps, the cross-cultural combo proceed to lay back and make things sound easy. Though Marie Dance claims she's too lazy to love you but too lazy to break your heart, making your jangle this funky while keeping it spooky and gorgeous takes hard work--whether we see you sweat or not. --Chuck Eddy
