This explains what I have but who I am is a Mother of 4 Daughters, wife to a wonderful caring man, and Nana to 4 wonderful grandchildren who I pray never get this disorder. I also wish to someday be able to participate in their lives much more than I am able to do today. Health is everything without which we can not live a full productive life, it holds me back but it will not finish me, my goal is to create awareness so others will not suffer and the medical community will see and hear us not dismiss us as they have for so long if I can accomplish this my prayers will be answered. what it is: The brain is actually normal, but as it grows the size of the cerebellum does not match the size of the skull in which it is contained. As a result part of the cerebellum protrudes into the upper part of the spine causing crowding. Since the spinal fluid cannot pass easily from the spine into the head spinal fluid may gather in the spinal cord producing a syrinx. It is quite common for a syrninx to occur with the Chiari malformation, It creates severe pain and disorders in the spinal canal which varies from patient to patient the common factor is it changes our lives forever, if you have questions or need anything please send me a comment and I'll do my best to help and if I can't I can give you plenty of others who have answers that will help you too!
