He has played with a half-dozen European teams, including Perugia, Juventus, Lazio, Marseille, Middlesbrough, and Derby County. He got 22 caps with the Italian national team.Known as the "White Feather" due to his prematurely whitened hair, he was one of Europe's best goalscorers in the late 1990s. He made an immediate positive impact on moving into the English Premiership with Bryan Robson's Middlesbrough. Memorable the hat-trick scored on his debut against Liverpool on the opening day of the 1996-97 season. He was one of the league's top scorers.He joined Derby County in 2001. Due to Derby's fiancial problems they had to defer his wage payments which they are still paying today, even though he left in 2003.
