WHO Am I AnD WHY ThE HeLL Am I IN THe UK?
I’m an unsigned singer/songwrier from Mauritius Island. I first came to Manchester for my university studies and I fell in love with the city as well as its music scene. In 2007, I hooked up with some local producers and started to work on my album.
Last year, those collaborations resulted in a No2 hit on the Mauritian Radio One Top10 with ‘More Love’. This dance track stayed in the Top10 charts for more than 3 months! WOO HOO!
A GLiMPSe OF My BACKGRouND!
Growing up on Mauritius Island, I listened to a lot of the Commercial music that was played on the radio. It is in the UK that I have had a real opportunity to discover and enjoy a wider range of music styles.When I was at university in the UK, I fell in love with its underground dance music scene ( including artists such as Willey, Kano, Dizzy, Virgo, H2o, Sway, Skream and Benga). And you know what? I've started to blend my own influences into those styles of music. Call me crazy if you like! lol
My first track, sittng at 140 bpm, Alive Again obviously has a grime influence but has a weird indie feel that i got from working with this London producer PB production who listens to not only grime but a lot of indie at the same time. (www.myspace.com/iamthestereotype). I listened to it, loved it, wrote some lyrics to the Dido melody and recorded it. As simple as that!
I am setting up my own Music Company Dappa Cherry and working on new material.
