About Me

Myspace LayoutsRusty was born in Port Lavaca, Tx in 1978, but raised in the mountains of Colorado, between Canon City and Westcliff. As a child, he remembers listening to his dads records of Waylon Jennings and Marty Robbin. From an early age, Rusty knew he preferred western music to that of country music. In fact the very first song he recalls singing as a child was "Mammas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys". For as long as Rusty can remember he has always wanted to sing and record his music. Like everyone with the dream of being the next big hit, he wasn't quite sure how to go about it. When he turned 21, Rusty got his first break. He recorded a demo tape for RMCMA Records, also known as Rocky Mountain Country Music Association, owned and operated by Misty Dawn. The first two songs Rusty recorded were " Not Worth Loving You" & "I Dedicate This Song to You" written by Greg Waldrop. The songs were put on a Multi Artist cd and shipped off to radio stations. Shortly thereafter, Rusty recorded his first cd, "Hittin the Road". The cd sported 10 songs, 8 of those songs Rusty had a hand in writing. The remaining two songs, "Montana Round Up" & "The Ballad of Bill Hickock were written by Misty Dawn and RC Youngblood. From an early age, Rusty began writing his own songs with a western flare. Songs reflecting the west rodeos and ranching cowboys lifestyle. The inspiration for such songs come from living in the back mountains, being around livestock and cowboys and listening to singers such as, Chris Ledoux, Michael Martin Murphy, Marty Robbin, and Don Edwards, are just a few of the many artist who have influenced Rusty's style. Since releasing his first cd, "Hittin the Road", Rusty has begun working on his second cd, "Ghost of a Cowboy". You can find Rusty singing in any state or national competitions, benefits, paying gigs, or on the back porch with family and friends.
