The Breaking Wind

About Me

The Breaking Wind came together in the summer of 2006 at a band camp held by the Caledonia Music Centre. Three students who had graduated Emily C. General Elementary School in Ohsweken, Ontario, and who had played music together since seventh grade, arrived at the camp in search of a drummer. These three friends, Wesley Martin, now age 15 (guitar and lead vocals), Ryan Johnson, age 15 (bass and back-up vocals), and Marty Isaacs, age 15 (lead guitar and vocals), found what they were looking for when they were put together with drumming sensation Ryan Mickeloff, age 13, attending Caledonia Centenial Public School. Very quickly this new band found its chemistry as fellow musicians and friends who were serious about music, but not necessarily so serious about life. Appropriately, the new band selected its name and The Breaking Wind was born. Each band member is passionate about music and dedicated to developing his own talents and making a distinct contribution to the group. Wesley Martin, lead singer and guitarist, fronts the band. His stage persona exudes a youthful and jovial energy, a playful humor that can only come from having known his two original band mates since kindergarten combined with a wink-and-a-nod to the band's new alchemy when the original three were joined by their gifted and enthusiastic drummer. Wesley is known for his creative song-writing ability, attention-getting stage presence, passionate and soulful vocals, and sensational guitar solos. In synergistic contrast, Ryan Johnson, bassist and back-up vocalist, is the group's solid-state component. Known for "laying down the bass candy," as Wesley likes to say, Ryan provides structure, but will on occasion, convert his Hofner bass into the lead melody instrument such as on the band's original tune "Let Me Be Your Man." Also known for his quick wit off stage, but more reserved on stage, he is the perfect compliment to the band's free wheeling guitarists. These friends have been having fun together for as long as they can remember, and it shows, particularly when Ryan steps up and plays a bass solo - which excites audiences that are not expecting a rock band to perform like a jazz ensemble.Like his band mates, lead guitarist Marty Isaacs has got groove and more than enough soul to make his Gibson guitar sing or shout, laugh or wail. His delicate and precise use of slide technique and his hand-is-faster-than-the-eye magic on solos creates an exciting dynamic, especially when he and his bandmates alternate time in the spotlight on songs like the jazz tune "Mr. PC." Marty, who will also on occasion step up to the microphone and sing lead, is an impressive and captivating songwriter and musical force.Adding the beat, and not a small amount of excitement, is the band's prodigy drummer Ryan Mickeloff. Although three years younger than his fellow musicians, he enjoys hanging out with his band members and visibly relishes the challenge of hammering out a variety of rhythms to satisfy the group's diverse playlist. The house really heats up when Ryan pumps out a powerhouse drum solo. The Breaking Wind's music consists of a mixture of rock, blues, funk, and jazz. Original scores bear influences from The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Queen, and others.
