Turquoise Noise

About Me

The project that is “Turquoise Noise” began life as a rejected band name suggestion for a group of kids that were a small scale Queen tribute act that did about a couple of gigs in 1991. Education, influence, general experience of “life”, and five years later, some original material began it’s journey towards being recorded somewhere, as something, by someone. More musicians, rehearsals, jam sessions, gigs, more education, more influence, more general experience of “life”, various jobs, and some years later, and 1999 marks the birth of Turquoise Noise. It starts out like any other band, with a handful of local gigs that nobody goes to, and then eight years later after a lot of work, the project begions to live and breathe on its own terms, with its own sound, and its own voice. Without any commercial consideration or stylistic loyalty, broadly under the heading “contemporary progressive rock” which has been heavily influenced by jazz, fusion, funk, trip-hop, and ambient electronic music, “To transcend the superficial organizational device that is category” seems to have become an adopted mantra, almost a corporate mission statement, and seemingly a first rule when nothing appears to be possible within a category labeled “not sounding enough like Turquoise Noise”, although “not good enough to be Turquoise Noise” would be a different matter. A 100%, homegrown British outfit of serious caliber, boasting musicians who are in permanent demand to do what they do elsewhere, and with a great collection of guest musicians, the music is the priority here. Content and substance over style and superficiality. Salvador Dali influenced squirel contemplation......
