Carlos Gbaguidi, batteur percussionniste béninois est né en Côte d’Ivoire. Après avoir vécu à Cotonou (Bénin) et à Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), aujourd’hui il vit et poursuit sa carrière musicale à Paris. Carlos Gbaguidi demarre au début des années 90 dans des clubs de jazz en tant que percussionniste et batteur – au "So What" à Cotonou (Bénin) avec des groupes tels que "Wadjo". Il cotoie grand nombre d’excellents musiciens comme Nel Oliver, artiste béninois, avec qui il rentre en Studio et participe au Festival de Ouidah (Bénin). Carlos Gbaguidi en 1995 part en tournée aux côtés de Papa Wemba en Afrique, La découverte de nouveaux rythmes ! Il parcourt le Bénin, le Togo, la Côte d’Ivoire, … Étape à Abidjan sa ville natale ou il est de nouveau sollicité par les directeurs artistiques de clubs de jazz – Cabane Bambou, L’oeil du jazz… Carlos fait encore de sublimes rencontres - Meiway, Alpha Blondy, Gadji Celi, Awana – et il devient le batteur attitré de certains de ces groupes. À Abidjan, Carlos Gbaguidi est repéré par de prestigieux musiciens – Georges Decimus (Kassav), Mario Canonge, Mokhtar Samba, Jean Philippe Fanfant – qui l’encouragent tous à venir enrichir son talent artistique à Paris. Et voilà une étape de franchie en 2000 : nouveau challenge, nouvelles rencontres, nouveau départ, et nouvelles tournées – Tonton David, Priscillia, Thierry Cham, Jacob Desvarieux, Boy Ge Mendes, Christine Caldi, Claudine François, Rido Bayonne. Carlos Gbaguidi joue avec la crème des bassistes tels Etienne M’Bappé, Guy N’Sangué, André N’Kouanga, Papa Noël, Habib Faye, Hilaire Penda, … Aujourd’hui sa passion en tant que batteur et percussionniste se développe à travers le monde – France, Espagne, Mozambique, Royaume Uni, … - avec des artistes tels que Jay Lou Ava (Cameroun), So Kalmery (République démocratique du Congo), Kuami Mensah (Bénin) Hanta (Madagascar), Oliver N’Goma (Gabon), Dulce Matias (Cap Vert),… Carlos Gbaguidi participe aux albums de Patrick Ruffino, Kaysha, Rido Bayonne, Ousmane Kouyaté, Boy Ge Mendes, … Carlos Gbaguidi adapte son énergie à tous les styles musicaux du Funk au Gospel, de Rhythm’n Blues à la Soul, du Reggae au Blues, du R’n B au Jazz, … Quelques extraits du talent de Carlos Gbaguidi à écouter sur www.myspace.com/carlosgbaguidimusic…********************** **************************************Carlos Gbaguidi adapts his talent and energy to a myriad of musical styles – from Funk to Gospel, Rhythm & Blues to Soul, Reggae to Blues, R & B to jazz. Carlos started playing drums and percussion in the early 90s in jazz clubs such as “So What” in Cotonou, Benin, accompanying groups such as “Wadjo”. He has worked with quite a number of excellent musicians including Nel Oliver, a recording artist from Benin with whom he worked as both a studio musician and also a participant at the Ouidah Festival in Benin. In 1995, Carlos went on tour in Africa with Papa Wemba – where he welcomed the chance to discover new rhythms! He traveled all over Benin, Togo, the Ivory Coast…stopping at his native Abidjan where he was sought after by several artistic directors to play in jazz clubs such as – “Cabane Bambou”, “L’Oeil de Jazz”. While on the road, Carlos kept meeting and working with some incredible musicians such as Meiway, Alpha Blondy, Gadji Celi and Awana and he became the preferred drummer of certain of these groups. In Abidjan, Carlos was noticed by prestigious musicians such as Georges Decimus (Kassav), Mario Canonge, Mokhtar Samba, Jean Philippe Fanfant who encouraged him to come to Paris to use and enrich his artistic talent. So in 2000, Carlos took an important step forward in his musical career and came to Paris, the city of new beginnings, new challenges, new encounters, new musical horizons – Tonton David, Priscillia, Thierry Cham, Jacob Desvarieux, Boy Ge Mendes, Christine Caldi, Claudine Francois, Rido Bayonne. Carlos was fortunate enough to play with the top bass players in the area such as Etienne M’Bappe, Guy N’Sangue, Andre N’Kouanga, Papa Noel, Habib Faye, Hilaire Penda. Today his musical passion takes him all over the world – France, Spain, Mozambique, United Kingdom with artists such as Jay Lou Ava (Cameroun), So Kalmery (Congo Democratic Republic), Kuami Mensah (Benin), Hanta (Madagascar), Oliver N’Goma (Gabon), Dulce Matias (Cap Verde). Carlos has participated in the recordings of Patrick Ruffino, Kaysha, Rido Bayonne, Ousmane Kouyate, Boy Ge Mendes. Carlos Gbaguidi, drummer and percussionist, was born on the Ivory Coast. After having lived in both Cotonou (Benin) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast), he is now living and pursuing his musical career in Paris, France.
