About Me

Hi everyone. My name is Jesse Webber. People around Kitchener-Waterloo, and I guess some of the surrounding Toronto area might recognize me from playing at a venue close to you. I am fairly successful, in my mind anyways, when it comes to what I have done so far with music. I am 19 years old and this past summer, I started a band for a blues competition called Webbs Junior and The Honeywood Express. It consisted of two members of another band called The Droops and they made up the rhythm section of the band, and are known simply as The Honeywood Express. On bass was Mr.Danny Droop (aka Dan Alec) and on drums/percussion was a Mr.Flanny Droop (aka Chris Flannigan). The other front man, and lead/rhythm guitarist goes by Alister Junior but some would know him as Alister Junior McGill. And then there was me.. Jesse Webber (aka Jesse Webbs, Webbs, Da Goat, or Cheddar), and yes, those are all actually nicknames for me. Anyways, it is easy to tell where our name originated from. So, we entered a youth legacy COMPETITION, put on by the Grand River Blues Society and ended up winning. We won the opening spot on the stage at the 2006 Blues Brews and Barbecues (one of North Americas largest and most recognized blues festivals). After that, we thought we might try our luck somewhere else. So we entered another competition hosted by 103.9 the Hawk, called, The Hawk's out of the garage competition. Nontheless, with over 500 votes for us (and our closest competitor 300 votes less then us) we won an opening spot for this years Hawk Rocks the Park, featuring Peter Frampton, April Wine, Loverboy, Eddy Money and many many other well known bands. We always just tell people we opened up for Frampton and April Wine. So that was our first couple of run ins with fame. That is just one of the projects I am involved with. Another project, is my original band which is called Jesse Webber and The Music Box. The Music Box is a local band which has a unique and wide variety of music to offer. It features Dylan Bravener on Bass/Keys/vocals/other weird instruments, and Tyler Stoddart as the front man and alot of instruments. Both of these chaps attended the same high school as myself and we all gel very well. So, needless to say, they make for a good back up band and have alot of stuff to offer. You can check out there original music @ www.myspace.com/themusicboxonline. I have not recorded with them yet but am looking forward to doing so in the next couple of weeks. So with saying all of this, and taking everything into account, it would be easy to tell that I am in love with music, and it seems to like me and treat me well. I am a full time musician so I know that I need to play some covers to survive off of (for the time being and until more people recognize me as strictly an artist... and not a cover musician). So, I have my cover band as well. Around Kitchener-Waterloo, we are recognized as The Cheeky Monkeys. This band features myself, and two guys old enough to be my grandfather... With a hell of alot of experience under their belts, the rhythm section consists of Jack Smith (who plays one of the meanest basses you will EVER hear) and Jack Byrne (who's style is comperable to John Bonham and Ginger Baker). With both men in their mid 50's they had alot of advice about music, and the struggling business that comes with it. Without those two men, I probably would not have become the musician I am today and owe alot to them. They also have helped create my unique guitar sound and always are there to offer advice. We play weekly and I learn something every week from them. FINALLY..my final project on the go. I am learning slowly, but surely, that a good way to make cash in this business is the route of the duo. I have met someone that I can get along with and has good stage presence, and has the chops to back it up. He is an acoustic player and a very talented singer/song writer. This local chap is recognized as Tyler Schwende. This past summer I had the oppurtunity to actually record all of the electric guitar work on his astonishing album. He has a very high-demand pop sound to his voice, and a hard rock edge that helps appeal to most audiences. We don't play too many shows with the Tyler Schwende band, but when an oppurtunity arrises, we take it. Tyler and myself, are also playing weekly together in a duo called Schwebbs and travel southern Ontario together playing shows on a weekly basis. You can check out the upcoming shows area to see when you can catch us in action. Check out his tunes @ www.myspace.com/tylerschwende
