We have so far completed several short film projects:
‘When I Get Low’ – Written by Richard Hughes, Directed by Jonathan Hall.
A film noir-inspired drama starring Joe Johnson as a man struggling with alcoholism. The film also features Molly Taylor and David Hering in supporting roles, music by Louis Johnson and editing, sound design and post-production by Dan O’Toole. The shoot was documented by stills photographer Sarah Brown and we were assisted by Leonard McGinty.
The film has been shown both locally (Picturehouse at FACT, Liverpool Biennial 2006) and internationally (‘In Exposed Areas’ Festival 2006, Cologne, Germany).
‘The City of the Undead: Teaser Trailer’ - Co-written/Directed by Jonathan Hall and David Franklin.
A retro-inspired comedy/horror starring TV’s Paul Keegan as MacGuffin. This was completed to form part of a ‘pitch package’, along with storyboards and a complete feature-length screenplay, for a longer and more ambitious project.
The film features several BossFilm regulars as the zombie hoard alongside new faces Jamie Navaro and Gemma Sainsbury. The shoot was documented by Kate Pattinson and we were assisted by Paul Yates.
‘The Disgraceland Trilogy’ – Directed by Richard Hughes, Editing and Post-production effects by David Franklin.
Three short comedy film ‘sketches’ completed in three consecutive months specifically for screening at Canvas, a night of live music, film, art and photography which takes place on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 3345 in Liverpool (http://www.myspace.com/canvasnight).
‘Crossword’ - Written by and staring David Hering, this Becket-inspired existential piece charts the downfall of western civilization in microcosm.
‘The Olympiad’ – Written by and staring TV’s Paul Keegan as a classical champion for our modern age.
‘The Raid’ – An epic action-adventure in the mould of David Lean, co-written by and staring the legendary Bobats and Barometer.
‘Gazing Back’ – Written by David Hering, Directed by Richard Hughes, Filmed and Edited by David Franklin.
This short documentary-style comedy focuses on an American artist (played by David Hering), living and working in Liverpool, in the run up to the ‘Capital of Culture’ celebrations.
The film is a follow up to pre-BossFilm production 'Mersey Gaze' (Written by David Hering, Directed by Richard Hughes), which also featured Louis Johnson and TV’s Paul Keegan in supporting roles, music by Leonard McGinty and animation, editing and post production work by Lee Kelleher. The film won praise in the press after a screening at Fact in Liverpool in 2005.

We have also been working on a number of bigger projects and currently have the following films in production:
‘Holmewood’ – Co-written by David Hering and Richard Hughes, Directed by Jonathan Hall.
This M.R. James inspired ghost story stars Joe Johnson as a young man who returns to the family home to settle the estate of his parents. The film features Les James, Sam Jones, David Hering and Dan O’Toole in supporting roles as well as music by Louis Johnson, sound design by Tom Smith and Peter Fletcher, and special post-production effects work by David Franklin and Dan O’Toole.
The production process was documented by stills photographer Sarah Brown and filmmaker Sam Jones (who also acted as assistant), and features the art work of Val and Doug Robinson, who also kindly furnished our main location.
‘Holmewood’ is currently in post-production and is due for completion by the end of May 2008.
‘The Art Set’ – Co-written by David Hering and Richard Hughes, Directed by Jonathan Hall.
Inspired by classic Ealing comedies such as ‘The Ladykillers’ and ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets’, this film centres on a reluctant artist, played by Joe Johnson, who is drawn into the strange world of arts patron Sir Rundle-Rhodes (played by Rob Rankin).
The film features our largest cast so far with TV’s Paul Keegan, Angela Colette, David Franklin and David Hering as the artists, Shaun Mason as Rundle-Rhodes’ right hand man, Cat Noble and Louis Johnson as the critics, and Francis Field and Dan O’Toole as the police inspectors. Post-production work will be undertaken by David Franklin. On the shoot we were assisted by Megan Walker and John Aldridge.
‘The Art Set’ is currently in production and is due for completion in summer 2008.
‘Happy Hour’ – Co-written by David Hering and Richard Hughes, Directed by David Franklin.
This comedy-drama is currently in pre-production and is due to commence filming in April 2008. Jonathan Hall will be taking the role of director of photography and the film will feature music by Dan O’Toole. The film is not yet cast.
