Walking into Eternity

About Me

Walking into Eternity - All over the world -
Poetry read aloud, Spoken poetry, poetry spoken, poetry read by the author
These are the things this site is about
I believe passionately that poetry is written to be read aloud, that the experience of listening to poetry is very different to that of reading poetry.

So that is what this is about - listening to poetry read aloud.
My name is David Agnew and I write poetry.
My journey has included the publication of a book of poetry
As my poetry is written with my own voice in my mind it seemed only reasonable to record the poems from the book in my own voice.
This site is intended to make that recording available via the web.
The book and accompanying CD represent two things:
- the story of a journey
- a book of poetry
"One mans description of his experience on the journey presented in this form in the hope that it may be of assistance to and encouragement for those walking the same journey."
It has been described by Christina Hardyment (The Times Book Supplement 20th June 2006) as
"arresting reflections on his own journey through life"

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.walkingintoeternity.com
Band Members: Not really band members but certainly people worthy of a mention. -

Dan and Julie from Flux Gallery Press.

It was Dan who first mentioned to me that I do a book. (So it is all his fault!)
He and I learnt a hell of a lot on the way. Both he and Julie were a real source of support and encouragement throughout the process.

Lisa from Allspunup.com

Not only does Lisa know all there is to know about web site design, but along the way we have become good friends. She now operates as intermediary between me and my muse.
Under her pen name Lisa E Geddes she will hopefully shortly be publishing some of her own poetry.

Bruce from Touchwood Audio

I explained to Bruce that I wanted to record the poetry as a live performance.
He explained to me that it would be much better recorded in the studio
He, of course, was right

Lorraine

Who knows me better than any one else.
Without her support perhaps none of this would have happened.

Influences: My favourite poets are -
Mary Oliver - because it was her poem "The Jouney" which leapt off the page, grabbed me by the throat and said "David, pay attention".
Wendy Cope - because of her ability to reduce things to the smallest number of words. Her "Defining the problem" sums up my entire love life in 34 words. I have seen this lady read live. She is well worth seeing.
Paul Durcan - a wonderful Irish poet with a completely off the wall take on things.
Alden Nowlan - because of his ability to take the mundane and make it somehow magical.
Sharon Olds - I have attended a workshop and a poetry reading by this lady - Truely inspirational
Sounds Like: Poetry read aloud

There are 41 tracks on the CD. My Space only allows me to load 4 songs.

Therefore the tracks have been grouped together under the heading as per the book.

Each recording plays for about 11 minutes
Record Label: CD recorded and mastered by Touchwood Audio
