"Atsushi & the Moisties" play authentic ska and reggae music inspired by 1960's+70's style music of Jamaica. Their influences include; The Skatalites, Maytals, Heptones, Lyn Taitt and Harry J All Stars. With no vocals, their horn section leads the melody in their all instrumental tracks, which makes the Moisties sound unique.
Founder of the band, Atsushi aka Moisty, is a re-inventor of New Zealand ska. Atsushi started the Moisties as a solo side project in 2003. His intention was to create good music that is great to listen to. Atsushi's project was extended in 2006 when he made his first solo ep. He decided to play live shows, so Atsushi and the Moisties was formed in mid 2006. Their debut performance was opening for the annual SKA-B-Q in 2007 for bands such as The Managers and The Offbeats.
Since then the Moisties has actively appeared in public. They have performed at venues including the Kings Arms, Khuja lounge, Thirsty Dog as well as Jagermeister bus, cruiser ship and private functions throughout the North Island. They have played at SKA-B-Q 2007, 2008 & 2009, One Drop Beats All reggae festival(Whangarei), Toots and Grooves Ska Fest (Levin) and Brewers Bar (Tauranga).
To keep people moisty, they have been performing fortnightly shows in Auckland as well as all over North Island of New Zealand, writting and playing new songs and setting up the Moisties' merchandise line such as band panties and singlets. In 2009, finally, they have made T shirts for boys and girls. And first music video may be produced. They are hoping to release a full album and to support overseas bands in the near future.
