I am here for Dating and Friends

About Me

when i was very young i wanted to be an astronaut. then i found out that you have to have perfect vision so i gave it up. currently my aspirations seem to be climbing towers made of elephant tusks.i try to make up for all of the time i spend with my nose buried in a book by playing hard when it's time to play.i like ultimate (nothing to do with fighting; if the words layout, scoober, or inside-out are involved that's more my speed).i love music, listening, making, and trading. everybody says he or she loves music, though. i think the real test is if you actually pay attention to what you're hearing. when i go to clubs i like house, funk--the more organic and jazzy the better. if i'm at home it's all kinds of stuff. postrock or reggae for tokyo train commuting, hip hop for tokyo street walking.my favorite pastime is rojou inshu (street drinking), which is illegal in my home country. maybe that's why i escaped.i can *almost* do a push-up while in a handstand, but i can't yet get the balance quite right. i'm working on it.if you're japanese you might look for me on mixi under the following three kanji: tasukeru, kotowari, oto. i spend way more time on mixi than i do on myspace. maybe that's because i can rationalize it as a form of japanese practice. maybe it's also because i like the challenge of expressing abstract thoughts in my second language.main goals for 2007: finish 90 % of this M.A. thesis and get one more publication; remember to cook meals at home; have fun with people like you.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

My Interests

beans and rice

I'd like to meet:

you.and people who send messages saying why they're adding me as a pal.

Music:

yes, i like music. right now if i had to go to the moon with only five albums, i would pick:1) the congos--heart of the congos 2) him--peoples 3) tommy guerrero--soul food taqueria 4) the upsetters--super ape 5) ali farka toure with ry cooder--talking timbuktui would also qualify this by saying that i would choose five entirely different albums by about three minutes from now.

Movies:

"cha no aji [the taste of tea]" is a must-see.

Television:

soccer, baseball, basketball and the occasional movie. if TV involved turning pages or running, i think i would like it more.

Books:

i have a few that i'm working on. one is my master's thesis. the others are more like projects that one thinks about while avoiding writing a master's thesis.

Heroes:

a synonym for a large sandwich. best with lots of melted cheese and fresh veggies, mustard mandatory. mayonnaise only OK if it's the japanese kind. mushrooms and green peppers highly desirable. salad oil, salt and pepper. make that cheese provolone. warm the whole thing in the oven just enough to make it warm to the touch and melty, then put on the fresh lettuce.

My Blog

i'm turning japanese

the number of friends on my japanese version of myspace (called mixi) has now surpassed the number of pals i have here. there's some overlap, to be sure, but then some of the friends who are here on ...

whatever

so i used to write on my livejournal all the time, but that got really boring. maybe i'll try myspace out for a while. really, though, i just don't have the time usually. i think that "blogs" shoul...
