Kill Baxter

About Me

Kill Baxter’s debut album “Kidnapped and Stolen” has been going strong since its release, showcasing the band’s sturdy and groove-laden, crunchy brand of rock-n-roll. Beefy guitar lines, tons of hooks and assertive and unique vocal performances pair up with solid songwriting to bring forth music that’s got its own distinct kick. It boasts the singles “I Think I’ll Try,” “We Will Fly,” “Testament” and “Gaping Holes.” For a sample of Kill Baxter’s rock chops, look no further than “Gaping Holes,” a song that demonstrates the kind of flow that drives the band’s singular songcraft. A bouncy, distinctive voice line rips and raves over the top of a soundscape filled with big guitar manifestations and a riveting rhythm section. The intricacies of the music are mirrored by the textures of the thought-provoking lyrics. Kill Baxter was begun by Brady Baxter in 2006; he performed all the instruments on the band’s seminal recordings – except for bass, which was contributed by longtime friend of Brady, Matt Kill (note the last name of the two people involved in these tracks). Matt moved on and new members joined the Kill Baxter family. Eventually, Baxter, Aaron Giere (percussion), Tom Lunde (guitar) and Brady’s sister Sadie (bass) coalesced into the creative unit that now performs under the Kill Baxter moniker. The album was produced, mastered and mixed by Brady Baxter on his Mac, using Garage Band software. Baxter is a college graduate who teaches Social Sciences (when he’s not busy rocking out) in Climax, MN. As the band’s history indicates, Kill Baxter is a work in progress, a band busy evolving – indeed, evolve or die is the mantra for any band wishing to survive today’s music industry. “KB is becoming a mixture of hard rock guitars, eloquent lyrics and beautiful guitar and vocal melodies mixed with tasteful guitar and vocal harmonies,” says Brady. Kill Baxter has won Fargo’s Battle of the Bands (the 2008 competition), winning $5,000 in recording time and $500 cash. The group played the 2008 Fargo Marathon, has performed with The Winter Sounds and is scheduled to gig with Verona Grove. Quickstar Productions sought out the band, looking to include the Kill Baxter song “I Think I’ll Try” on the “Rock 4 Life” compilation. Kill Baxter’s songs are present on iTunes, Napster and Rhapsody and can be heard on two Internet radio stations – www.live365.com’s Dai Mac’s Rock Station and Doom Radio – not to mention Useattle TV. Online French music magazine Sefronia is covering the band’s debut release. The Kill Baxter tune “Fargo” was composed after a pair of DJs from Fargo’s Rock 102 FM asked Brady to compose a tribute to the CD; it’s the first KB song to nab radio play. A new album is under way, with recording ongoing at Grey Barn Studios in Detroit Lakes, MN. The band goes back to work with Kevin on April 11 and 12th, and the band plans to release the album in the summer of '09.

Influences: Kill Baxter has been influenced by the long legacy of Rock and Roll from Classic Rock and Hard Rock to Punk and Metal. No stone (or 'hard rock' for that matter) has been left unturned by the bands listening ears over the years. Kill Baxter's music resembles what rock and roll is supposed to sound like....or at least it does to them, that is.
