Get ready to fall in love… with Tajji Sharp.
There are some artists that we are naturally drawn to. No matter the topic of the song, we find ourselves bobbing our heads and having a great time. Tajji Sharp is soon to have the hearts of young and older fans alike. A Phoenix native who has lived in Virginia and Florida, Tajji is ready for stardom and groomed for success. A young Tajji Sharp fell in love with music and Hip-Hop many years ago when he started rapping with his brother Aleem, who was tragically killed in May of 2006. "We used to freestyle, spitting back & forth in Hampton for fun while walking to school in our pre-teen years. Once we moved to Miami in 89, I made a conscious decision to take rapping seriously and ever since then it's been a gift wrap", says Sharp.
A former member of the group Survivalist, which broke up in the summer 2005, Tajji has had a glimpse of where his career is headed. The group debuted on the Hip hop/R&B Billboard charts at 5 in '01, which garnered national attention to a group and city that had otherwise never received so much recognition. The Survivalist were featured in Vibe magazine's "Next Section", XXL magazine, Sister to Sister magazine, Right On magazine, Phoenix's own XPOZ and New Times publications, as well as many others. Reflecting on his past experiences in the music industry, Tajji knows that he is blessed to have made it this far. Sharp believes that the music industry is hands down the shadiest business to engage in, but it's all about being selective in relation to the people you deal with, things you are told, peoples intentions, being able to decipher good advice from bad advice. After the death of his brother, and personal friend Nisha and the near death experience of his mother, Sharp took a hiatus for a few years. After the adversity and pain, Tajji has risen again and this time he vows to take it to the top.
Tajji has been influenced by many artists, including Kanye West, his personal friend and mentor since 1996. "Dude taught me a lot about the game and provided me insight and experience you just can't pay for," says Sharp. Tajji has had the opportunity to open up for and tour with some of the worlds largest and most respected groups and talents including: Kanye West, Nas, The Roots, 50 Cent & G-Unit, The Fugees, to name a few. In addition to Kanye West, Tajji's rap and producer influences include Biggie, Common, Jay-Z, Nas, Dr. Dre, Dj Premier, and Timbaland to name a few.
What sets Tajji's music apart is his ability to bring life and heart to a story that has been told so many times before. He's a true digital age artist who doesn't need 16 bars to develop a picture in your head. When he snaps off a verse, the image is simple enough for everyone to feel it instantly. Songs like "The Passion" are so versatile that it is soon to be the hottest song in the commercial market. In addition to the hit "The Passion", Tajji has not only captured a street audience, the commercial arena, but yet he has also done a few songs for the ladies. "Come Over" is a hit that the ladies will certainly love. Sharp describes his style as innovative, witty, daring, yet fresh!! No matter what is being supplied, Tajji has managed to intertwine words that are so versatile and exciting, and throughout Phoenix, Tajji has created nothing short of a movement.
