Tuesday night’s game against the Giants was played before a crowd of 48,887 who came to see both their surging Mets and six New York Jets heroes of yesteryear. Jets Game Night was originally scheduled for Monday, April 28, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather, so before last night’s game, six one-time New York Jets were introduced to the crowd on what was promoted as Jets Night At Shea: Jets Pro Bowler Wesley Walker, Marty Lyons, Jets Linebacker Gregg Buttle and Super Bowl Champions Emerson Boozer, Randy Beverly and John Schmitt. Boozer, Beverly and Schmitt unveiled the countdown for remaining home games at Shea Stadium, while Lyons, Buttle and Walker each threw out a ceremonial first pitch to Mets players. An added attraction was Mets starter Mike Pelfrey being named as Mets Sharp Pitcher of the Month for June. Pelfrey went 3-0 with a 3.52 ERA in five starts. In 30.2 innings he racked up 19 strikeouts as the Mets went 4-1 in games he started.

Artist – Singer / Songwriter / PerformerWhen describing legendary singers, many mention that all posses the "X" factor. When describing singing sensation Pia Toscano, some say she has the whole "alphabet†factor. Starting at the young age of 4, Pia stole the hearts and ears of every person who sat in her living room. With only a microphone in hand and an attitude way beyond her years, she would perform her rendition of "I Will Always Love You†made famous by Whitney Houston. In just a few years, she went from living room size venues to singing the National Anthem and God Bless America for the Brooklyn Cyclones at Key Span Park. The Cyclones were so impressed with Pia that they asked her to sing throughout the 2002 through 2005 seasons.
Â
Pia was accepted into Fiorello LaGuardia, the High School which gained recognition through the movie "Fame", as a vocal major. It was no surprise that she was one of 150 students to make it out of 1600 who auditioned. Through LaGuardia, Pia was chosen to sing with artists such as Josh Groban, the Bare Naked Ladies and was honored to record and perform the Pokemon theme song for their 10th anniversary special.
In 2006, Pia auditioned for the hit television show American Idol, and just like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, Pia walked out of her audition with a "golden ticket" to Hollywood. It was not until the summer of 2008 that Pia truly realized and recognized how quickly her dreams were becoming a reality. It was the hot summer night of July 8th, when she stepped out onto the field of Shea Stadium, in front of an audience of 48,887 and belted out the National Anthem sending chills down the spine of everyone. As Pia opened her eyes after her last note she noticed that she was receiving a roaring ovation. At that very moment, for the first time, Pia was speechless. After her performance at Shea, singing God Bless America for the Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg at his 3rd term announcement was a walk in the park.Currently, Pia is recording and completing her first EP of irresistibly catchy Pop and R&B records along with beautiful ballads of love and heartache. As Pia continues down the road to success, she sings every step of the way. With the grace of yesterday, the beauty of today and the voice of tomorrow it is only a matter of time before Pia Toscano makes her mark in music history.Â
