The Golden Bubbles hail from the hard scrabbled prairie of southern Minnesota, where the bachelor farmers aren’t afraid to dance with complete strangers or put up a decadent dance hall in the middle of a remote cornfield. The G’Bubz are professed aficionados of prairie-disco-pop, or in the vernacular, a little bit of Ben Folds Five piano rockin’ added to a stupidly groovin’ “Off the Wall†pulse, sprinkled with some Freddie mercurial vocals, cleaned up in a Lawrence “of Aberdeenia†Welk tuxedo and cheap date grin. We make sonic tonics. No sillyputty here. Here are some comments from satisfied customers: “Southeastern South Dakota’s premier prairie, disco, pop band….†–George McGovern “The flagship dance band of Wells, Minnesota!†–Col. Thompson "Are these guys for REAL?" -Sioux City Journal “…the drummer looks like a game show host.†The Argus Leader Ok OK OK, so you want the real scoop, troops?….Notches on the G'Bubz resume include a month-long residency at the Nomad World Pub in Minneapolis, winning the 2008 Radio K/University of Minnesota Battle of the Bands, opening up for Ben Kweller, riding in a parade through downtown Wells for the 2008 Kernel Days Parade, and getting kicked off stage at the Turf Club in St. Paul. The G'Bubz released their first LP, "A Good Time Was Had By All," in April 2009 at Gayville Hall (seriously). Please contact your local church bell-ringer or skyscraper antenna operator to make certain this album can be broadcast in your area. [email protected]. The story behind the name: The Golden Bubble is an actual defunct dance hall located just south of Interstate 90 near Wells, Minnesota. Locals say Bobby Vee's band used to play there a bunch. With a wood dance floor and a shimmery disco ball, the hall charmed its way into the hearts of farmer's daughters all across the Blue Earth River Valley. But, then it went vacant, quiet, and in 2007 it got busted for being a meth lab. Woops. So much for vintage nostalgia. The G'Bubz carry on the former tradition of old-fashioned hootenanys and boot-stompin boogies and bonnet-bursting melodies. Look out for the boys in yellow coming your way. You'll know us by the giant white limo we call a touring van.
