Fat Cabbage

About Me

Fat Cabbage..hmm…it’s a long story..but here goes…I guess I got my first real six string, seems like I bought it at the five-and-dime, I played it til my fingers bled, it was a long time ago…maybe the summer of 69? Sure that was 5 years before I was born but still that’s just a minor problem. The creation of Fat Cabbage happened years back and I say years back because that’s when it happened. Jimmy, Scott, Eric, and I (Geo for those keeping score) from borghal rantipole decided to make a “blues band.” We started practicing 6 days per week (some borghal, some “blue band”). We learned lots of songs as you would imagine practicing that much. I was working a job at the time where I ran into someone from school and met his new wife that happened to be…. guess who? No, it was Joy, but good guess anyway. I started talking about music ( go figure me talking about music) and she mentioned that she used to sing with her father’s band. I invited her to come to our show at Harmanco’s in Albemarle where we would be playing that Friday or Saturday (can’t remember…let it go..I’m getting old). Well she showed up…and we had her sit in on a blues song….and HOLY CRAP…she started singing and we all got whiplash looking over to make sure that huge voice was coming out of that little lady (lol…I said little lady..I have to move out of the country). So we asked Joy to start singing with us and voila..the blues band had a new singer. Eric and Jimmy still sang some as well but she became the main vocalist. Then we had to come up with a name…we came up with a lot of options but decided on…..that’s right Fat Cabbage. So where did that name come from? (you may be asking…or maybe you’re not..so if you don’t want to know….stop reading now) Eric and I were roommates in college and he used to have this game called Star Fox on Super Nintendo ( I told you I was getting old). There was this one kind of douche baggie buzzard looking guy that used to say something that sounded like, “suck my fat cabbage.” So we decided that we would get odd looks if we called ourselves that whole name so we went with the last half of it. We could have gone with the first half but you know…it could be taken wrong…not to mention people would wait to see what you would say after “my.” Obviously we picked the logical half. So you’re thinking, “Why are the names you mentioned not the same names as the member list?” Well..be patient I’m getting to that…pushy readers…I swear. Anyway, we lost Eric and Scott after a while…they were in other bands as well not to mention that Charlotte to Albemarle commute…it sucks. After we lost them we picked up Chris. Well we didn’t really pick him up…he can stand and walk on his own. He came in and pretty much learned the set list instantly. We played like this for a while…then Jimmy went back to college in Boone and moved to Tennessee and you can imagine that commute sucks as well. And your imagination would be right. We recently added Mike on drums. This brings us to the present day. Now you know the history of Fat Cabbage…your life is now….complete.
We play all types of music. Currently we play a lot of covers but are working on more originals to add in. We play a lot of old R&B, funk, rock, blues, etc… like Aretha, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Etta James, BB King, Albert King, Susan Tedeschi, Johnny Cash, etc.. CharlotteLiveMusic.com
