Donald W. Hill is the Dallas city councilmember for District 5 and the mayor pro tem of the City of Dallas. He has held his elected position since June 1999 and has been reelected four times.
Mayor Pro Tem Hill has been a licensed attorney in the State of Texas since 1978 with an emphasis in the area of civil litigation, labor and employment. He is a frequent lecturer on labor/employment issues throughout the United States and is past Chairman of the 1,100 member Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), Employment Law Section that specializes in representing employees in labor/management disputes.
As Mayor Pro Tem of the city of Dallas, Donald Hill presides over the Dallas City Council meetings when the mayor is absent, and provides leadership on the Council in developing legislation and budgetary matters.
Don is a member of the City of Dallas Finance, Audit and Accountability Committee, which oversees financial policies and operations of the City and acts as the Audit Committee, selecting and monitoring the results of the independent public accounting firm that annually audits the financial operations of the City.
Mayor Pro Tem Hill serves on the Economic Development and Housing Committee of the City of Dallas which is charged with the responsibility for creating competitive economic opportunities for business and person in our City. Economic development is the number one priority for the City of Dallas.
Mayor Pro Tem Hill is also a member of the City's Transportation and Environment Committee which oversees three regional airports including the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the third busiest in the United States and which is in the midst of a $3.5 billion capital development program; a regional transportation system which includes buses, light rail and a coordinated network of interstate highways, freeways, and roads.
Mayor Pro Tem Hill serves on the $2 billion Dallas Police & Fire Pension Boards, which provides pension benefits to over 4, 000 members.
On a national basis, Mayor Pro Tem Hill serves on the Community and Economic Development Policy Committee for the National League of Cities, which is the largest advocacy organization for cities and towns in the United States. Mayor Pro Tem Hill has a special interest in economic development matters with an emphasis on inner city urban development.
As a 22 year member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church, he has been a bible study leader, Sunday School teacher for children and is presently a deacon. He loves his family, which includes his wife Sheila, daughters Sherrica, Kristin, and Erika and his two grandchildren.
