Since the bands conception in January 2007, Before the Solstice has become a fixture within the Atlanta music scene by maintaining a thriving creative force and purposeful spirit. Drummer, Jesse Van Bruce joined the group this year, adding his hard-hitting rhythm and wicked beats to the dynamic and unconventional musical creations of singer/guitarist Clint Bussey, who continues to be faithfully backed up by bassist J.W. Popovits’ inventive bass lines.
The past two years have seen Before the Solstice spread their brand of rock all over Georgia at music venues and bars throughout Atlanta, Athens, Villa Rica, Clarkesville, and Rome, including a major opening gig for the indie band, Fear Before the March of Flames, at the Masquerade. More recently, the band drew crowds at festivals, such as Fall Fling in Dragon Hills, GA and invaded the Fuel the Fire tour, a quarterly showcase of talented Atlanta local rock bands. Their persistent gigging has culminated in a devoted and eclectic fan base.
The band pulled together an 8-song demo, including crowd favorites like Worldwide Veneer, God’s Time, and Let it Die, which has found itself in the hands of many listeners fascinated by the message and melodies they would hear at the shows. Because of the staggering reaction to the band’s music and a growing number of requests for an album release, the band hit Toe Tag Studios in Covington, GA to record most of the songs for their first album release, entitled Worldwide Veneer. The Toe Tag project was interrupted when lead singer/guitarist, Clint Bussey entered the intensive care unit after a masochist stint of gin guzzling. He recovered after two months in ICU and multi-organ failure with renewed ambition and purpose, once again drawing the band together to complete the recording process. The first full length album, Worldwide Veneer should be expected sometime April 2009.
With the release of the new album, Before the Solstice will be hitting the airwaves, though they’ve already had their first singles played on Atlanta’s 102.3 local music show, Out of the Garage. This year should brace itself for their vision of hope among the disillusionment of the people. The world remains unprepared for the fall of religion and loss of freedom associated with the elitist powers of a new world government, doomed to destruction and replaced by a golden age free of addictive and disparaging momentum. Before the Solstice carries a message with prophetic insight and imbued with meaningful possibilities.
