There is enough in this story to create a biopic, saga filled script which incorporates all the elements that make a dramatic scene. Struggle, triumph, tragedy and perseverance were some of the experiences faced throughout Amazin’s 28 year journey into his life and the years between with the recording industry. To say the least, Amazin is arguably and widely considered one of Queens’ most talented rappers. His ability on the mic surpasses just rapping. It’s his ability to be able to be a dynamic storyteller and songwriter that makes his position amongst the rest parallel to none. His charisma and ability to connect with others through music is why he’s garnered such a name as Amazin. In one breath he is taking his listener through an odyssey that is promised to be Amazin!
Amazin was raised up in Jamaica’s North Side, Queens. Through his days in Queens’ Andrew Jackson High School he sharpened his lyrical tools rapping at the lunch room tables for anyone that cared to listen or battle. “I would always rap in every class, every period, I would come up with a new verse,†he reflects. His reputation and lyrical prowess in his neighborhood impressed many of his friends and peers who tagged him as Amazin. This is where Amazin’s 13 year hip-hop journey began. His outgoing, outspoken persona matched with his aggressiveness not only touched in rap but bleed over into boxing, where he started training for the Golden Gloves competition. With all of these different emotions and personalities, there were times when these characteristics clashed and caused years of trouble with the law and eventually incarceration. The impact of incarceration and eventually the untimely passing of his mother was the catalyst to decide to get his life on track and put his talents to use.
After putting much work in the studio doing records, freestyles and creating a buzz in his hood, opportunity came knocking when his music landed in the hands of Producer Self, who felt there was something special about Amazin. This union lead to a great musical relationship, spawning a body of work leading to a recording deal with Universal Records in 2001. Universal first featured Amazin to the masses by appearing on the FUBU compilation album and then the Baby Boy soundtrack with Snoop Dogg and R&B singer Tyrese. During this time a 19 track cinematic album entitled “Heal The World†was set to hit the market with much anticipation from the label and the streets. As the spring 2002 release date was quickly approaching, the albums release took a major set back, and was never released on the market and caused a turn in Amazin's career.
Life after Universal was a humbling experience that added another valuable lesson to Amazin and only fueled his hunger more to establish his presence in the game. Similar to the grind prior to Universal, Amazin continued doing what he does best and creating more music. He began showering the streets by linking up with mix tape impresarios such as Superstar Jay, Love Dinero, Big Mike, DJ Clue, and Cutmaster C to name a few. Also he forged new music relationships with upcoming Producers such as Jimmi Kendrix (Ja Rule, Ashanti, Jay-Z, Shyne), Vinny Idol (D-Block, Jadakiss, Styles P) and Baby Grand (Jadakiss, Ghost Face, Lloyd Banks).
Amazin’s struggle throughout his life and career became a celebratory motivation that has created a new chapter in his saga as he embarks on a resurgence to the game.
