Born Under the Sun of Death
DBL023.ECD209Here you are. You've somehow found yourself in a long-abandoned barn in the dry, lonely hills of Washington. You're surrounded by dust, crow calls, fine sunbeams. You're not alone. Pieces of wood fly from one end of the room to the other seemingly at their own volition. Three blurry ghosts appear and disappear in short succession. Some long-forgotten being begins to assemble its shape into physical form but is stopped by unknown cosmic powers, sucked back into the ether in a violent electrical storm. These are the sounds of Born Under the Sun of Death, a narrative ambient-doom album by Kristian Garrard (KRGA), Mitch Bell (Thunder Grey Pilgrim), and Luke Bergman (Speak). Field recordings, bleak, rusty guitars, distant horn sections, arrhythmic gamelan, speaker-shredding noise-drums, and demonic vocals come together in a careful and slow moving progression, evoking the particular lonely, haunted sound of the wooded northwest.

megabats

DBL026.ECD212This being my first band I asked Debacle friend Sparkle Girl Kurt to do the write up:
"Essential psych-burner debut from the megabats crew. Hallucinatory sheets of shamanic drone wash over subliminal beats and howling synth-like waves of sound. If LSD is unavailable in your village, this will do the trick."

Slates
Street of Dreams
DBL022.ECD208
Coming off his tapes with such titans of Northwest Noise as Blue Sabbath Black Cheer and Dried up Corpse, Slates drops his first full-length release. "Street of Dreams" is one 44 minute wall, but this wall is laid slowly - brick by brick - until 35 minutes in, when a crackling monument of sound is vibrating before you. It is like being immersed in a waterfall of forks or a gigantic burning tumbleweed, and right as you are starting to acclimate - the sound peaks, the wall falls over, and you are left buried in the rubble of a thousand foreclosed houses.

The Dead White
Endless Mess
DBL024.ECD210
Andy Brack may not be technically from the Emerald City, he's actually a San Deigo expat and current NOlympian resident, but we love him anyway. This album is many years coming, and lives up to its title "Endless Mess" but, oh, what a beautiful mess! Ripped straight from tape and tracked as SideA/SideB, the recording keeps the lo-fi guitar histrionics intact and intense. I once heard this cat described as "Skaters meets Haino" and I'm not arguing. Beautiful guitar loops clashing with walls of noise. For fans of The Skaters, Thurston Moore, and Bill Nace.

Mood Organ
Visiting a burning Museum
DBL025.ECD211
"Visiting a Burning Museum" is the first full-length effort from Mood Organ, the solo project of Seattle-based multigenre chameleon Timm Mason. Begun over 9 years ago, it is a meditation on memory and abstraction. The album folds instrumental performances, treated field recordings, and evolving drones into a towering block of sound that evokes power and sadness all at once.for fans of Drone, Charlambides, Gregg Kowalsky, Greg Davis.

Thunder Grey Pilgrim
Demogorgon
DBL021.ECD207
From the original Earth to early Growing to current giants like Pussygutt, Story of Rats, Ruhr Hunter and Tecumseh, there is something about the Pacific Northwest that seems to breed the best druid droners. Thunder Grey Pilgrim is my current pick for best new act in Cascadia, and while he isn't really all that new this is his official first release, and its a monster of blackend nights and windy cliff-sides. Three tracks, one dude, many instruments, beware listening to this one a dark back road is all I'm saying.

Airspace CDr / Live at the Wooden Octopus Skull 2005 DVDr set
DBL016.ECD202
2009 marks the 10th anniversary for Dick Flick & the Broken Penis Orchestra. 10 years of cutting up, toilet humor and downright absurdity. It has been a wild ride full of downs and ups rights and fights and it has all led to this.

Airspace is a dedication and a protest in one fell swoop. Dedicated to the sound artists, past and present, who have, and continue to challenge, amuse and confuse us. Without the inspiration drawn from the likes of the Mixed Band Philanthropist, Negativland, Nurse With Wound, Orchid Spangiafora and many others, the BPO simply would not be. Comfort the confused, confuse the comfortable as Dick likes to say...And a protest to the Supreme Jerks court ruling that all sampling is currently considered illegal. BAH!

Penetration Camp/ Physical Demon
PCPDEP
DBL027
Double 3†split CD-R in full color folder by two of Seattle’s biggest fire breathers. Penetration Camp straight off their recent split LP with Blue Sabbath Black Cheer and Physical Demon following up their recent self released monster, each throw down their own brand of skuzz n’gank. PC comes with a samples and room echo, followed by a torrent of sheet metal and piss. Representing their new direction, Physical Demon bring a version of their recent live set to bear. Synth and drum machines boil and roll over three movements of psyched out tones and tumbling whalebones.

Summon Thrull
DBL020.ECD206
Summon Thrull is one Dustin Kochel of such DBL faves as Physical Demon and Ghidorah. It is a disc of solo synth/guitar burblings. From Vangelis like moments to full on noise attacks this album does not ever work into a groove something is always moving, slithering, or bubbling. Evil synthnoise for your next passion party with the girls.
