About Me

V. DaNeesa Monk - songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist.The Venue BROOKLYN EXPOSURE has taken another direction, fewer nights per week... Still a great spot to visit and have fun. I've been woodshedding on the trumpet. I will be bustin' it down very soon. I am looking for a new venue, however... Meanwhile -- enjoy the action shots from the first 2 jam locations. Tell me what you think... See anybody you know? See you soon! ! ! ! --------------------------

I have been around, doing background work on vocals and bass for lots of artists. Some of the known artists are T.S. Monk and Wyclef Jean. I've done a lot of work in the Haitian music circle. So of those projects include Riske, Papa Jube, Lataye as well as artists like Eddie Francois and Jephte Guillaume. I've performed and written for ecclectic projects, House Music projects, World beat and classical. I've performed and recorded in French, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Creole (as well as a few African languages). My return to jazz is spurred by my realization that Jazz is not getting the kind of props that I'm used to seeing and that it deserves. As the only daughter of Thelonious Monk's only sister... it's time for me to come home now and get to work. I'm taking my place among the ranks of those who play and advocate jazz. After making that decision, I have been encouraged, taught, guided and mentored by great jazz artists such as Cecil Bridgewater, Jeremy Pelt, Jay Starkes, Myrna Lake, Gerald Hayes, Kiani Zawadi, Carlos Abadi, and bass master Bakithi Kumalo just to name a few. Some of the new artists I've recorded with are Eric Frazier, Neil Woodard and Music Noir. Some of the other music genres I perform are Rave (techno), Acid Jazz, RnB, Jazz, Racine, new age and alternative styles. I even have a few country tunes.I've appeared at NYC's S.O.B's, Nell's, The Copa Cabana, Summer Stage in Central Park, Celebrate Brooklyn concert series, African Arts Festival, KISS.fm radio events. My performance experience includes national and international tours. I love to travel. Lets meet and create.
