About Me

Some have said that my career exemplifies upward mobility and determination. I prefer to think that God has plan and I'm just walking the road.My writing career began when I left my job as a sales and marketing assistant for a trade publisher and accepted an unpaid editorial internship at HONEY magazine. Shortly after joining the HONEY editorial staff, I began writing a monthly girl-around town column, “Road Trippin’.” Readers quickly grew addicted to my quirky, fun-filled adventures, such as speed dating, learning how to surf in Hawaii and spending time as an enlisted soldier in the United States Army’s boot camp. I remained at HONEY for two years during which I not only became the Entertainment Editor, but also won an award from the National Association of Black Journalists for my full-length feature story on domestic violence amongst young urban women, ‘Killing Me Softly.’ And thanks to the popularity of the column, I eventually became the face of HONEY magazine. In 2003, I left HONEY and joined the staff of JANE Magazine as an Associate Editor. Where in addition to a monthly sex page, I frequently contributed to the entertainment section of the magazine with top celebrity interviews as well as quirky hyper feature stories such as: ‘Mitzi Lives Like A Privileged White Woman For A Week’ and 'How To Date 8 Guys At Once,' which was favorably mentioned in a Washington Post article. In addition, I've been blessed with consecutive book deals. The first book, THE ANGRY BLACK WOMAN'S GUIDE TO LIFE (Plume/ Dutton) was released in April 2004 to rave reviews in The New York Times, Boston Globe and Newsweek Magazine. My second book, THE VOW (Harper Collins) was released in October 2005 and also met with outstanding reviews in The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Essence Magazine, Glamour Magazine, excerpted in the March 2006 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine, as well as being earning a coveted spot on the Essence Magazine Bestseller List.At the end of 2005, I left JANE Magazine to pursue exciting new writing and television opportunities. In addition to several reoccurring appearances on VH1’s list shows including Best Week Ever, I had the priviledge of performing in the 2006 annual benefit production of Eve Ensler’s award winning stage play, The Vagina Monologue at the Apollo Theater. Now a Contributing Writer for Essence Magazine, I'm currently on the road promoting the recent debut of IF YOU ONLY KNEW: a HOTLANTA novel, the second of my three-book African American teen book series for Scholastic Inc. All of my boooks as well as the entire HOTLANTA series are available on amazon.com and in bookstores nationwide.
