Corey Dennison

Son of the Blues Corey Dennison, developed a deep and profound love for the art of music, especially the soulful genre of the Blues at a tender, young age. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1975, he spent a majority of his childhood moving about Tennesse and Georgia. As a young boy, Corey heard the powerful, soulful sounds of the Blues on late night radio programs and recalls being captivated by the music. He got his first guitar at the age of 6 and began to imitate the music of artists such as Gatemouth Brown, Albert Collins and Albert King. He immediately felt a strong connection to Soul music. “ I just loved the way Soul music made me feel from my head to my toes. I remember humming along to songs from Wilson Pickett, Curtis Mayfeild & Sam Cooke.” This marked a lasting impression on his musical style and is clearly visible today in his soulful vocals and fiery, guitar solos. After the passing of his father in 1983, Corey was living a life of despair and spent several years on the wrong side of the law. “I am not proud my mistakes, but it made me into who I am today. I learned to always follow my heart and soul and learned to move in the right direction.”Soon after, Corey found his musical calling while hanging out with his harp playing uncle. “My Uncle snuck me into clubs where I saw some of the greatest Blues cats of all-time, Albert King, Albert Collins and Junior Wells. This is where it became clear to me; I wanted to be a Blues Man. Spending several years honing his skills as frontman for the Vital Support Band ( Carl Weatherbsy former backup band)," These guys have really showed me the real me and have helped me in alot of ways. Showed me what to do what not to do. I would'nt know anything if it was not for my Brother Calvin "Skip" Gaskin." Since then, Corey has been playing rhythm guitar for Carl Weathersby sharing the stage with such musical greats as The Kinsey Report,Jimmy Johnson, Robert Randolph, Derek Trucks And John Mayer," I have waited seven years to play with Carl, I feel that I have made the right choice to leave Vital Support and go out on my own and learn from one of the best men in the bizz. I will be wit Carl ( pops) for a long time. I still have alot of things that I need to learn. You are only as good as the people you play with and Carl is one of the baddest."
