“Melodic, bitter-sweet guitar workouts led by Walker’s distinctive vocal croon.†(The Irish News)
And the Belfast Telegraph described Neon Dawn as:
"Purveyors of thoughtful indie-rock." (The Belfast Telegraph)
The original four members of the band: Neil Walker, James Anderson, Joe Fleming and Rik Gay – who all hail from Northern Ireland - were drawn together in early 2006 by the desire to write songs of real substance. Neil and James had worked together before in 90’s indie band Blue Sunday and in the early days of The Serrano’s, but it was their first time collaborating with Joe and Rik. Selecting from Neil’s vast supply of lyrics and poetry, written over a number of years since the demise of his previous band The Serrano’s (www.myspace.com/serranosmusic) and fusing them with the collective musical ideas of the band as a whole, the sound and the songs quickly came together.
They recruited former front man of The Defects, Buck to engineer the album sessions, feeling that he was the man to help them capture the raw sound they were looking for. Between January and February 2007, all of the tracks were recorded and mixed at Doghouse Studios in Lisburn and the band certainly succeeded in producing an album with an edgy, live feel, in sharp contrast to the more polished and layered recordings of The Serrano’s.
In July 2007, Joe decided to leave the band and was replaced by Lyndon Dodds, who swiftly learned the songs and took over on bass for the remaining gigs of 2007. The band continue to promote and sell their album via the internet, hoping to bring the songs to as many people as possible.
