PASQUALE PANICO was born October 26th, 1973 in Torre Annunziata, Naples.
Since he was little he has the passion for the music thanks to his grandfather who was fond of the classical Neapolitan music (he used to play the mandolin and to sing Neapolitan songs after working in the factory); during his life he paid a special attention to the music and to different genders of music and in 1993, when he was 20, he dedicated to the electric guitar.
He learned to play this instrument by himself, listening to great musicians as Henrdrix, Knoplfler, Gilmour....and many more of ‘60s and ‘70s and everything which made possible the evolution of this wonderful instrument.
In these early years of study he started to play, like all the young musicians, in various local bands with different repertoires like rock music, cover songs of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Iron Maiden...
After two years of self-taught study the desire to improve his technical and executory skills became bigger and in 1995 he started to study the guitar with Mario Izzo, a musician from Torre Annunziata with a big musical experience who led his studies to the wonderful jazz culture and other musical styles.
After that, thanks to his grandfather’s passion for the classical Neapolitan culture, he got into a typical instrument like mandolin.
With this instrument he played through the Neapolitan area and abroad (in 1996-97 he worked in Egypt for the Sheraton Cairo Hotels).
After this amazing experience he played mandolin and guitar with the master Espedito De Marino who worked for the famous Neapolitan singer-songwriter Roberto Murolo. For this occasion he arranged a band made of 12 musicians, performing classical Neapolitan songs arranged in a new way in a lot of Italian squares.
In 1998, thanks to this experience, in honour of the hundredth anniversary of Antonio De Curtis and George Gershwin, he achieved the certificate for the "Aglaia" award from the daughter of the great artist Totò, performing a solo song, Summertime, with the guitar.
In the meanwhile the passion for jazz music required technical and expressive improvement so he started to study with the guitarist-composer Antonio Onorato and the singer Auli Kokko in the association "Musicisti Associati" in Naples.
After this period of study he started to work with some young musicians, performing jazz music and related genres in local clubs.
In 1999 the old passion for distortion sounds came back and he went back to look for new crossover and new-metal sounds. With this new musical experience he took part in various events in some Italian community centres and in the Italian show "Chitarre sotto le stelle" in August 2000 in Imola, Bologna. This show was opened by the legendary English band "Deep Purple" in which many important italian guitarists took part as Maurizio Solieri, Richie Portera, Cesareo.
In 2001 Pasquale started to study the classical and modern-jazz guitar with the master Aldo Farias.
From 2002 to 2005 he worked at the string instruments department for the sale and demonstration of guitars at the store "Mondo Musica Ciaravola" in Boscoreale, Naples, but he went on playing in local clubs.
In 2003 he achieved the certificate for solfeggio at the academy of music of Avellino, helped by the master Pericle Odierna.
In 2004 he co-operated as guitarist in the project of Famoudou Don Moye-Baba Sissoko-Maurizio Capone for the album "Folk Bass Spirit Suite" which had a great success abroad thanks to the fame of Don Moye, drummer and percussionist of the famous band "ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO" which revolutionized the world of jazz through African traditions.
In 2004 with the electric guitar he took part in the Italian event Pomigliano Jazz Festival with the project Moye-Sissoko-Capone together with other important musicians as Aldo Vigorito, Piero De Asmundis, Marcello Colasurdo, Fabiana Matrone and Giovanni Volpe.
After the ethnic experience with Don Moye, he took an interest in afro-rhythmic world especially for the African and Brazilian music.
From 2005 to 2006 he began to study percussions in the school of samba "UNIDOS DO BATACOTOâ€; here Pasquale learned to play typical Brazilian instruments like TAMBORINO, with which he now plays with the band, taking part in a lot of events in clubs and Italian squares.
During 2006-07 he kept studying classical guitar with the master-concert performer Giammaria Fontanella.
By studying the classical guitar he enriches the execution of this instrument, learning some techniques of “Flamenco†with a very close friend, musician and composer, Nino Ganguzza.
He had the chance to work as a jazz musician for the Italian cruise line MSC Crociere during 2007-2008 throughout North Europe and South Africa, where he had the fortune to meet some Indian people who showed him an amazing and charming traditional Indian instrument, the SITAR.
Thanks to this instrument he starts a new path by proposing it in many shows of ethnic music with Unidos do Batacoto and other great musicians fond for this kind of music.
