Die Watching

About Me

Biography:
Die Watching was formed in the early 90's by Jezze (vox), MauP (guitar), Marieke Misfit (vox), Esther (vox), Daanzig (bass), Ava (guitar) and Mick (drums). Driven by their love for punkrock, horror and humor they started out writing songs about the likes of cannibalistic neighbors, the X-files, sorcery gone amiss and other important issues such as going out in the city and being drunk.
DW was not inclined to be forced to bow for the wave of political correctness so they were the odd ones out in the Amsterdam punk music scene but this didn't stop them for playing everywhere and as much as they could. Their shows were energetic, loud and powerful affairs. A bit like the band members themselves: they couldn't be overlooked. Either you loved 'em or hated 'em...
Soon after the first -untitled- demo Ava left Die Watching to concentrate on Rise of Realism and he was replaced by Jorix (later of Brehznev and Felchers-fame). With Jorix on guitar they recorded "13", the album that was ultimately only to be released in a very limited edition.
After a good 5 years DW broke up, riddled by line-up changes and members falling of the wagon. DW had managed to make a new -and final- mini-CD: "Orange Crushing Demolition" as a last effort with only Jezze, MauP, Daanzig and Marc left.
Still DW had it's impact: after the split-up Amsterdam Oi-punks G.O.H. wanted to play a cover of Friday Night and DW gained after-life fame (or infamity, for that reason) in the punk music scene.
Members of Die Watching have popped up in bands like Miss Fit, Brehznev, Yawp! , the aforementioned Rise of Realism, Felchers, The Usual Suspects, Exide and other Amsterdam bands.
This page is a tribute to an Amsterdam punk band that got it's cult-status too little too late and still, like before, is not to be kept shut.
