Rail Road Riders

About Me

In 1973 four 15-year old Danish boys from Tårnby (Henrik Kock, Bo Larsen, John Lindholm and Bjarne Tolstrup) got together and formed, what was first a country western band (GræsMopperne) and later a rock..n roll band (US-DeKay - a name that was soon changed to Rail Road Riders). As most teenagers we dreamt of becoming famous rock stars. We composed our own songs -first in Danish later in English- and even got our photos taken for the first LP cover (photographer: Dennis Mundberg). However, the band never really took off, and after 2-3 years with a handful of gigs it became clear that the dream would never materialize.

More than 30 years later, we met again for a class reunion and it soon became obvious that we had to give it one more try. Bjarne had continued slamming his drums with various bands and Henrik had composed a large number of country western/folk songs (together with Irish Liam Bourke) for his 12-string guitar, so there was something to build upon. Bo had mainly played his guitar for flirting purposes and since he had found Ana, the guitar had been placed in a corner and used only occasionally such as e.g. when his guitar-friend Hugo Contin stopped by their home in Angera, Italy. However, Bo promised to practice a lot and when he volunteered to get all the gear together (drums, bas, guitars, amplifiers and a 16 track digital recorder - oh man! if we had had that back in '75) Rail Road Riders were set for the Revival. John claimed that he could hardly remember the three most used cords in Rail Road Riders.. songs (A, E, and D) so the band resumed as a trio in Studio Don Guanella (Bo..s garage!) the first week in September 2005. The recorded songs were of such a quality, that only family and kind friends were willing to listening to them. However, with the wonders of todays.. digital sound processing (we use Kjaerhus Audio ) Studio Don Guanella managed to compute versions of "Sang om forår" that encouraged us to go on. During 2006, Henrik returned to Studio Don Guanella to work on more songs and Bjarne came to put a final touch on the percussion. All this (and more) you can hear on our first album 'Angera' - the songs are in our playlist.
During 2007 RRR together with Frank Basile (Honory member of RRR) on drums have continued working on a new album, 'Is there time?'. It was released in June 2008. You can get a taste of it by listening to the songs on our second webpage: www.myspace.com/railroadridersbo

'ANGERA' CD

Influences: Our first concert was long time ago (a school ball). 35 years later Henrik, Bo and Liam played together again in Varese - Italy with the help of our good friends Massimo, Larisse & Jack (Rail Road Riders at the 'Europa -Terzo Mondo' concert Nov-18th-2008):

We played this lovely DENVER song at 'Europa Terzo Mondo'
Sang om forår (3:29) :This is the very first song written by Henrik Kock and Bo Larsen (1972-1973). Henrik’s happy melody fits Bo..s words on what goes through the head of a teenage boy, when he catches a glimpse of the young girl in a forest on a spring day. Henrik sings it, backed by Bo, and plays 12-string guitar & bas together with Larisse Montero ..board, Bjarne Tolstrup on drums and Bo on electric guitars & percussion.
Old '29 (3:43) :Music and lyrics by Henrik Kock. This Country&Western from 1976, about a man who loves his car, is song by Henrik, backed by Larisse Montero and Bo Larsen. Henrik plays 12-string guitar, bas together with Bo on electric guitars, slide guitar and harmonica and Massimo Carriero on banjo and harmonica. On this new version, which will go on our coming CD 'Is there time?' we have Frank Basile on drums.
Angera (3:55) :This song was composed in 2006 by Henrik Kock, inspired by our first sessions in Studio Don Guanella (see the explanation to the song Rail Road Riders). He sings it, backed by Larisse Montero, Bo Larsen, and the Angera Chorus. Henrik plays the 12-string guitar & bas. Frank Basile plays drums. Bjarne edited the percussion on the bas/guitar solo
Rafa (3:52): Lyrics by Henrik Kock to the Cuban song "Guantaramera" from 1928 by Joseito Fernández. Henrik wrote these words in 1995 to his friend Rafael, who left this world too early. He sings it, backed by Larisse Montero and Bo Larsen, and plays it on his12-string guitar and bas together with Bo on spanish & electric guitars and percussion.
Fed Rock (2:40) Composed in 1973 by the Danish rock band "Shu.Bi-Dua" inspired by Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock". It was the most popular song when we performed with it in 1974-75. Bo Larsen sings the vocals backed by Henrik Kock to the drums of Bjarne Tollstrup and electrical guitars & bas by Bo.
Rail Road Riders (3:57) :When we started this project, we had completely forgot our title song and it was not until Bo..s son, Anton inquired about the bands name, that Henrik remembered the music (from 1974-1975). On the way to buy some guitar strings, new lyrics were hastily put together by Henrik and Bo and during the night Henrik came out with this new version. Henrik sings it, and plays 12-string & electric guitar and bas. Bo plays the electrical guitars and sings the backing. Frank Basile plays drums.
