Guided by former light heavyweight champion Archie Moore, Tommy Brooks capped off an outstanding amateur career by defeating future World Champion Michael Spinks, not once, but twice to become National AAU middleweight champion. Spinks went on to the Olympics in 1976 and won the Gold Medal.During the next several years Brooks studied the trade under illustrious trainers as Eddie futch, George Benton, Lou Duva, and Emmanuel Steward. He learned the tricks of the trade well. Since the early 80s he has trained the "cream of the crop", Mike McCallum, Junior Jones, Fred Pendleton, Charles Murray, Rocky Lockridge, Johnny Bumphus, Evander Holyfield, Pernell Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor, Hasim Rackman, Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Visily Jirov, and Iron Mike Tyson.
