"SURF" (students understanding real faith) is the name and the mission of Mandarin Presbyterian's middle school department. We love to just go crazy for Christ and offer a variety of programs and events for every step of your faith adventure. Don't forget to check out our website. www.mandarinpres.comIf you are just starting out, come to our "HANG 10" program. "Hang Ten" comes form a verse in the Bible where Jesus explains that he is not here to steal away our fun with a bunch of silly rules and with religion. Instead his purpose is that, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." That’s exciting news to us. This program takes place Wednesday nights from 5-7:15. It starts with games, live music, skits, etc. After that there is a talk, then dinner for $5. That includes a drink, usually chips and cookies, and a main course of Pizza, or McDonalds Cheeseburgers, or Arby's roast beef sandwiches or some other good food. After we eat, we head to small groups where you get a chance to discuss what the talk was about and ask more questions with a high schooler and an adult.
If you're more interested in God and know who he is and are ready to learn some more deep stuff and a lot more about the Bible, get here Sunday mornings for "Dive In". This is where we get nice and deep with our discussions of Christ and the Bible. We will do lots of reading...and also lots of crazy games and doughnut eating. It is a fun time to learn more about being a Christian.
Lets say you have been there and done that and still do every week and are ready to kick your faith up a notch and start really having an impact, then you might be interested in becoming a "SURF Board Member". The SURF Board will meet about once a month and are required to attend most of the programs and events put on by SURF. They will help Tiffany and Daniel plan events, talk series, trips, pretty much everything. They will also be responsible for inviting and greeting at "Hang Ten." We will help them learn how to put their faith in action.
If you are an adult or high schooler and are willing and available to volunteer, maybe you would like to join the WAVE (Willing Available Volunteers Experience). They are the back bone of our programs. Who can SURF without a WAVE? They do everything from leading small groups and getting really involved in kids’ lives to preparing meals, chaperoning trips, and taking pictures for us. Let us know if this sounds cool to you and we will sit down and see where we can use you.
