Valiant -a modern tale of faerie- by Holly Black, The Gunslinger/Dark Tower series by Steven King, I have also read a few other great books but don't remember the authors so I won't list them.
Heroes:
BATMAN! He is so cool cus all he does is wear a bat suit and all the ladies want him and the men envy him! He doesn't even need a super power. Also Sailor moon and kerropi were my childhood favorites. Haha but lifewise I don't really look up to anyone in particular, you gotta depend on yourself.
