Blood of Martyrs

About Me

Drawing on a lifetime of metal and occult experience as well as an interest in altered and trance states, and aligning itself with pagan, environmentalist, and alternative political agendas, Blood of Martyrs eschews typical 'metal' ideologies, and their music reflects this iconoclasm: raw black metal with aspects of progressive, folk, and trance music, unusual arrangements, and extended electro-acoustic improvisations incorporating such unlikely instruments as acoustic bass, electronic sound manipulation, and even saxophone (ex-Chicagoan free jazz maniac Aram Shelton contributes his shrieking alto to one particularly mind-twisting soundscape) take their place alongside more traditional elements of face-ripping guitars, pummeling drums, and harsh vocals. With a live set including not only aggressive trance-inducing metal, but tribal percussion ceremonies and wildly writhing,leaping,clay-covered ritual dancers, Blood of Martyrs touches upon a dark, ancient part of the unconciousness while boldly forging forward in conquest of new territories and unknown worlds of thought and sound.
