Pehchaan

The term “Pehchaan”, in Urdu literally translates in English as one’s identity, or the symbol of one’s recognition. However, a more profound interpretation could be of one’s cultural recognition. Pehchaan, the band, is an American-Desi band lead by Imran Rehman (Lead Vocalist, Composer, Arranger, Mixing Mastering Engineer, and Lyricist) with Zeeshan Ali as the lead guitarist.Pehchan is a unique band, in that, it is not confined by the boundaries of musical genre; it aspires to break through the borders of categorization, reaching out to a wide range of listeners. It endeavors to incorporate various musical genres into its fold.The band was formed in the United States in October 2003 at a wedding arrangement. At the wedding, a group of aspiring musicians were to perform in front of a live audience; a band without a name, without an identity. Prior to the performance, Imran found this as the perfect opportunity to be recognized as a musical entity. He wanted to give these young musical enthusiasts a purpose. Romeel (A musical mind with an abundance of exceptional ideas, and a God-gifted arranger) suggested in his words, "We should come up with a name that will be our Identity/Pehchaan, and henceforth, Pehchaan was born. IMRAN REHMAN: A step beyond being insane is called being ‘passionate’, and that is how Imran’s love for music can be defined. A naturally talented musician, with the God-gifted voice, Imran has a great sense of humor as well. His primary role in the band is that of the vocalist, however, his personal objectives fall far beyond his assigned role. Apart from being the vocalist, he is composer a lyricist, an arranger, and amixing/mastering engineer. Imran has been involved in music since the young, nurturing age of six.The focal point of his passion gathers inspiration from many artistes, however, most of it emanates from the magical voices of Janab Mohammed Rafi Sahib, and Janab Mehndi Hassan Khan Sahib. This melodious odyssey began at an early age of six, when Imran would sit beside his father and watch classical Indian movies, all the while singing along with Rafi's charming tunes. After graduating from college in C.N.S with honors, he started focusing on his musical talent.Imran has been fortunate enough to study classical music (RAGA/TALA) under the great Ustaad Rita Sahai Shiba, who in turn is a student of Ustaad Akbar Ali Khan Sahib. Also, to adapt to the American style of music (scales/patterns), he teamed up with Dr. Waqar Ahmed Sahib.
