At last some new info on Andy Thorburn's activities. Busy as ever playing writing and teaching, his long-time association with Blazin'Fiddles and The Ghillies is now joined by newer bands Babelfish and CST. Blazin' Fiddles are still winnng awards, and the latest album is ! LIVE! recorded i Glenuig Village Hall - Great!
Babelfish was formes during Celtic Connections over recent years and has played in the club several times - often finishing off the festival! -Literally! We do live poetry to strange music and longish pieces, be warned! Check out the myspace -- therealbabelfish
CST is me marc and adam on holiday, singing and playing our favourite songs, 3 piece arrangements, piano, guitar and fiddle with Marc singing, like a lark
This year I have a piece to compose for Distli, and it's a 3 song tryptych about the Highlands. Recently I have composed for saxophone quartet and voice (Moonrise - performed at Edinburgh Festival 2006) and theatre music for the play Red Fish, by George Gunn.
Last year Andy was musical director and conductor for a big production with 5 shows throughout Europe, St Kilda. Produced by the Gaelic Arts Project in Stornoway, this was a massive undertaking with multi-media and video streaming direct from the island of St Kilda itself, as well as pre-filmed dance sequences and archive footage.
The album Piano can be ordered from andythorburn.com , as well as blazing fiddles cds and more info on the man himself.
