Of course, my first interest is to cultivate a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Jesus. After that, the most important thing to me is simply spending time with my wife, Tykie. No matter what I'm doing, whether work or recreation, it's always better and more enjoyable when I do it with the love of my life! She enriches me in every way possible; spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally. What would I do without her?***My interests, outside of these, include spending time with friends. Reading. Writing articles for our ministry website, www.goodseedpublications.com . Artwork of various sorts. Whitetail deer hunting on our farm. Trout fishing in the streams of North Georgia. Atlanta Braves Baseball. Rottweilers. Weekends at the Beach. Woodworking and other related building projects. Oh, and did I mention that I love a good practical joke? (Willie P. Richardson is my favorite phone prankster! He keeps it clean.)
Because I believe that death is not the end of an individual, my list of people I'd like to meet isn't limited to those now living on the physical plane. It also includes historical figures, as well. That being said, therefore, some of the individuals with whom it would be fascinating to meet would be:Adam and Eve (I have a lot of questions I'd like to ask them). The apostles Paul, John and Peter. John the Baptist. Moses. Elijah. King David. Enoch. Abraham. Mary, the mother of Jesus. Judas Iscariot (imagine having a sit-down interview with him!). Polycarp. The early church father, Origen. John Huss. Rees Howells. Leonard Ravenhill. C.S. Lewis. Corrie Ten Boom. Peter Marshall. Watchman Nee. A.W. Tozer. I could go on. Needless to say, the list could span the centuries.Of those now living, I would have to say that I would like to meet each and every one who is on my ministry mailing list, with whom I've communicated for many years now. These include saints who reside in many parts of the world, and who come from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, but who share a common desire to know the Lord Jesus in an intimate and personal way.
I love different types of music, and I like to think that I'm fairly tolerant of most styles (there are a few exceptions). But personally speaking, I prefer those expressions which keep Christ at their center. Some of my favorite artists are Michael Card; Phil Keaggy; John Michael Talbot; Fernando Ortega; Ashley Cleveland; Third Day; Jars of Clay; Rich Mullins; Matthew Ward; Keith Green; Mark Heard; Buddy Greene; Don Francisco; Kerry Livgren; Glenn Kaiser; Bob Bennett; Iona; and others.
My favorite movie of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. Older movies would also include The Grapes of Wrath; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington; It's a Wonderful Life; Meet John Doe; Roman Holiday; and a little-known, but marvelously heart-warming movie named Goodbye My Lady. Those from the Christian genre would be St. John in Exile; A Man called Peter; The Passion of the Christ; Shadowlands; The Last Sin Eater; Facing the Giants; Love Comes Softly; The End of the Spear; and The Chronicles of Narnia. There are certain Sci-Fi movies dealing with future issues and events that have interested me over the years. One of the first that comes to mind, and which I have found to be decent as well as highly entertaining, is called The Island. Others would include Equilibrium; A.I.; and I Robot. Historically valuable movies are The Patriot; We Were Soldiers; Braveheart; Saving Private Ryan; Schindler's List and Into the West. However, my list would not be complete without mentioning The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Three cheers for Frodo!
Jeopardy; America's Funniest Home Videos; then occasionally, Numb3rs, Cold Case, and Criminal Minds, whenever it looks like the episodes are going to be decent enough to watch. I also like watching reruns of the Waltons!
Being a student of the Scriptures, I'd have to say that my favorite book is the Bible. There's no other book quite like it in all the world! Other books which have deeply impressed me would be: The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah by Alfred Edersheim; Types in Genesis and The Restitution of All Things by Andrew Jukes; The Complete Works of Francis Schaeffer; The Spiritual Man and The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee; and works by lesser known authors, such as The Feast of Tabernacles by George Warnock, God's Great Family of Sons by George Hawtin, and Sons of God Awake by Bill Britton. I must say, however, that this is one category on which I could spend a lot of time. As anyone who's been in my office can tell you, I love books!
Davey Crockett. I once heard that he could grin down a bear.
