Berlin saxophonist and composer Jonas Schoen founded the Jonas Schoen Quartett in 1999. The band's premier CD, "neindo", was nominated by the German Music Critics' Association for its recording prize. The bands second and third CD's "my middle name" and "Five and Fortunes" have earned broad acclaim from the press and the public. Rounding out the band are the internationally acclaimed pianist Buggy Braune, bassist Pepe Berns, and drummer Heinz Lichius. Their ensemble work is without equal.
Schoens next release was "TravesÃa" presenting a fusion of modern jazz and Piazzolla-style Tango, also presenting Jonas Schoen as a Bandoneón player, followed by "music for bigband vol.1", recorded with the bigband of Hessischer Rundfunk.
All his music was released on his label "Schoener Hören Music"
Schoen has established himself as a leading composer, lending his highly personal voice to works performed by the North German Radio (NDR) Big Band and Hessian Radio (HR) Big Band, and to music for the popular TV series "Wolffs Revier" and "Tatort".
Since 2003 he has been Professor of Jazz Composition and Saxophone at the College of Musical and Theater Arts in Hannover.
He is part of the orchestras in the Robert Wilson directed plays "Leonce und Lena" (with music by Herbert Grönemeyer) and Threepenny Opera (Brecht/Weill).
