Hi and welcome to the 100% unofficial home of West Bromwivh Albion football club. We are actually one of the oldest clubs in the country and were one of the founder members of the football league way back in 1888 along with Accrington, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley, Derby County, Everton, Notts County, Preston North End, Stoke and our pals up the road Wolverhampton Wanderers.A lot of people make the mistake of classing West Bromwich as a part of Birmingham, but although it carries a Birmingham post code it is actually part of the Black Country, which includes Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton. We have won the FA Cup 5 times, the last being nearly 40 years ago in 1968, beating Everton 1-0 after extra time at Wembley with the only goal coming from the man who scored in every round of the competition that year, West Brom legend, The King himself - Jeff Astle. We were league champions in the 1919-1920 season, finishing 9 points clear of second placed Burnley. We have also won the football league cup once in 1966, beating West Ham United in the then two legged final. We are also the only club in history to win the FA cup and promotion from the old second division ( now the Championship) in the 1930/31 season, beating 1st Division Birmingham City 2-1 at Wembley. Our main footballing rivals are Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa, Villa being the next closest ground to The Hawthorns. Traditionally Aston Villa was always the big one as far as West Brom fans were concerned but over the last 20 years or so the West Brom v Wolves Black country derby has been classed as the fixture that the fans most look forward to but I guess a lot of it depends on where you live as there are a a lot of West Brom fans that live in Birmingham as well as the Black Country. We are currently in the Football League Championship, after suffering relegation from the premiership last season and we are looking to gain promotion back to the top flight as soon a possible, and continue the building process to become established among English footballs elite. The club hit an all time low in the early 90's, dropping out of the top two divisions for the first time in it's history, thus creating the need for everyone involved with the club to pull together in order to avoid a fate which could see this once famous club, dissapear off the footballing map forever. We failed at the first attempt, narrowly missing out on the play offs and finishing 7th with Bobby Gould leaving the club at the end of the season as quickly as he had joined at the start. The next season, playing under the very attack minded Ossie Ardiles, with a young team hungry for success, The Baggies finished 4th and won promotion via the play offs at Wembley, beating Port Vale 3-0. Almost another decade would pass before West Brom got back to where they belong, in the top flight, led by Gary Megson 18 years after we last dropped out of that division in the mid-eighties and since then they have been somewhat a yo-yo club, being not quite good enough for the Premiership, but too good for the Championship. Let's hope the baggies can win promotion this season and then we can cement our place back where we used to be, amongst the best teams in the business. Boing Boing!
