Populus was formed in Febuary of 2006 and have been described as "the simple minds for the noughties" by jackie hayden of hot press ireland..after years of playing in different bands they decided to get together as they all wrote their own material and felt the strength of each others songs they started recording in febuary and march of that year..All their tracks have been recorded at their own studio in tallaght and longwood co meath, financed entirely by themselves.The main influences for Populus vary from The Chilliis, The Beatles, the killers to more eclectic bands such as Primus and FrankZappa.populus released their first single "you and i" in isaac butts on the 14th of september to a packed house, thanks to all those who came, the single reached no.4 in its first week in the irish download charts and the lads are making plans for another single and hopefully a new ep in the new year so watch this (my)space (available on downloadmusic.ie)
