Perth-based Red Jezebel are ready to unleash their fantastic new single Kicking Deadly Sins, the first taste of the band's forthcoming album How I Learnt To Stop Worrying.
The bizarre journey of Red Jezebel to this point has certainly been one of the rockiest in recent Australian music history. Recently parting ways with major label Warner Music, following their signing to Festival Mushroom Records, has seen Red Jezebel return to their indie roots now. Not that the band released anything on either of those major labels!
A ten year career has also seen the band – consisting of Paul Wood, Mark Cruickshank, Alex Hyman and Dave Parkin - release four EPs and the acclaimed 2004 Revelations album. Along the ride Red Jezebel have also supporting the likes of Garbage, Elbow, Brad, Powderfinger, Something For Kate and The Living End as well as tour the country with Eskimo Joe, Jebediah, 78 Saab and more.
Inititial plans for an EP release were delayed due to various record company-related factors, at which point it was agreed that Red Jezebel should take matters into their own hands. As such the band parted ways with Warner Music, who were extremely decent about the whole thing and gave the band full ownership of all the recordings, plus tips. The album, the soon-to-be-released How I Learnt To Stop Worrying, will now be brought forward from its May 2008 scheduled release and come out this October.
Red Jezebel couldn't be more excited to have come through this process with the best songs of the band's career, surviving the major label system at a particularly temultuous time for the record industry around the world.
The Jez hope you enjoy the first single, Kicking Deadly Sins. Like the rest of the forthcoming album, it was produced by multi WAMi award-winner Dave Parkin (who produced Red Jezebel’s Revelations album before joining the band on guitar duties) along with the rest of the band at Blackbird Studio in Perth and mixed by Dave Parkin. The accompanying video was directed by Steve McCallum (Snowman, The Silents).
