The Yellowhammer is Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s premier dance club. Located in the downtown entertainment district, The Yellowhammer is set in one of the oldest buildings in this famous college town. The ceilings are over 15 feet tall and reflect an art deco style reminiscent of early 20th Century. The bar itself expands over half the length of the establishment to better serve customers from all angles. The floors are a combination of delicatessen-style tiles and hardwood flooring. A stage showcases the perfect elevated dance floor that is visible to all curious eyes. Plus, some high top tables provide plenty of seating for those that wish to gather for idle conversation or to scope out the dance floor. The Yellowhammer also offers a relaxing patio in the back when you need to get away from all the action.
G a t h e r – Everyday The Yellowhammer opens at 3pm. Owner, Jamie Price, is busy stocking the coolers and playing some great music to set the mood for a great happy hour. The Early Bird special, also known as Happy Hour, starts at 3 and ends at 7pm with great drink specials daily. Candles are often lit on the tables to create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. This may very well be the perfect place to gather in Tuscaloosa after work, after dinner, to watch the game, or even for a business meeting. Not to mention, we have some of the best bartenders.
P l a y – The Yellowhammer is a great stop-in for those with the spirit for fun and play. The billiard table is new and is often open for free play. The dart board invites those to test their wrist action for games of one-on-one or league play. However, playing is not just sporting games. Playing is also for those that might be interested in pursuing the hottie two tables down or for those who want to check out the action on the dance floor. Playing is for everyone and playing will become a favorite pastime at The Yellowhammer.
D a n c e – The Yellowhammer is a dance club and bar. We play different music from old school r&b, rock, techno, country, and hip hop. This is an opportunity for everyone to come in, let loose, dance and have a hell of a time. The Yellowhammer has one of Tuscaloosa’s most infamous D.J.’s – DJ Jo Jo.
Where did "The Yellowhammer" name come from?
The Yellowhammer bird, also called the Flicker, got it’s name from the way it hammers trees with its beak and the flash of yellow it displays on the underside of its wings. The Yellowhammer’s colors of gray and yellow, are said to resemble the uniforms of Confederate cavalrymen. An Alabama regiment of the Confederate Army wore Yellowhammer feathers in their hats, hence, this is how the Yellowhammer became the state bird of Alabama. Yellowhammer is also used in the famous Crimson Tide cheer when an Alabama victory is on the horizon. Rama Jama Yellowhammer give'em hell Alabama.
