Created with mySpace Profile Editor Nysa Shenay With the arrival of 2001, Nysa Shenay joins the ranks of Gospel music's "Up & Coming" new talent with a name, look and sound that is distinctly her own. Nysa Shenay, a California native, may be the latest soloist to share her God-given talent, but do not mistaken her for some unproven, unsolicited newcomer wanting her fifteen minutes of glory.
With over fifteen years in the music industry as a background vocalist, Nysa has patiently lingered in the shadows, working with legends like Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Tramaine Hawkins & Kurt Carr. Quietly honing her gift for the Lord, Nysa has nurtured her writing skills, vocal chords and anointed spirit for this particular time and season. Essentially, Ms. Shenay is ready to give her everything on her first CD.
Hence, the title of her long-awaited project is aptly entitled, "My Everything," (Priority). As Nysa prepares to deliver her gift to the world, we decided to jump out ahead and introduce a uniquely charming woman who's clearly comfortable in her skin and spirit.
The 14 track album is produced by Grammy award nominee Laythan Armor. Nysa gives the album a distinct, unique and savvy sound wonderfully supported by Laythan's production and musicianship. "My Everything," is best described by Nysa herself as "straight up rhythm & praise that anchors the soul," from acoustic, to ballads, to funky grooves and even a full blown choir. There's a wide variety of spiritually uplifting songs to enjoy. You'll be sure to enjoy the CD's up tempo funky grooves like, "Have A Talk With God" and "Love The Things You Do." Track highlights include, "I'm Your Father" which flows into a contemporary church groove sure to please the most avid music saint. Additionally, "Mystery," is a sweet groove with a background acoustic guitar and Spanish rhythms which pulsates as Shenay extols the wonders of our Creator and the things he has done. The lyrics of "Toy" are creatively fresh, telling the devil that, "I'm not a toy, don't you play with me, No you can not steal my joy, Cause I got victory."
Rarely does an independent release from the three musical constraints (bed tracks, vocals/vocal arrangements and engineering), capture the essence of what constitutes a good CD. This particular one does not, and I repeat does not disappoint on any issue. It is on-point production and giant vocals make this project drip with goodness. Undeniably, Nysa is a vocal virtuoso. She's not only covering hit songs she wrote; she's performing them better.
