Joe Vence a.k.a ( Young Beano), born November 14, is the third of six children and like many other blacks in America, began life in poverty. Born and raised in the Cochran Garden projects in downtown St. Louis, MO., a place filled with gangs, drugs, alcohol, and many other negative influences, did not stop Young Beano from progressing. His love for music, particularly Rap and R&B, sustained him and by age nine Young Beano fell deeply in love with this genre.Living in the Midwest has given Young Beano a diverse ear for rap music, because in the Midwest every coast of music is represented on the airwaves. His past influences have been groups like, Run DMC, NWA, Eric B, LL Cool J, and Big Daddy Kane. His present influences consist of Young Jeezy, Jay Z, Tupac, Biggie and Snoop Dogg. These influences are evident when you listen to Young Beano's delivery of his lyrics.By age twelve, Young Beano was putting together lyrics that had the entire Cochran Garden projects huddling up to hear him battle. Also, know as " Lil Joe with the Flo", Beano was often spotted rapping at community events, skating rinks and at all the hood parties. At a young age it was evident, Young Beano rapping future will be phenomenal.
Growing up in the projects, alternative sales strategies seemed to come easy to young black men on a mission to produce an income. It was no different for Young Beano, who utilized his talent and salesmanship, selling demos of his music to young rap lovers throughout the projects. By the age of 13, Young Beano had sold more than 2,000 underground tapes.Over the years, Young Beano has continued to record and release hit music, perform at various shows all over the United States, and keep his ear to the streets for new and innovative sounds. Young Beano senses that he is prime to finally receive the major record deal he has been long searching. With dedication, passion for his art form and persistent, the future as a prominent rap artist is near. This was evident in 2005, when he took over the rap scene of St. Louis, with hits like "Act Bad" and "Skip 2 Da Lou"Recently, Young Beano has linked up with Lock 'Em Down Records, to form one of the most powerful combinations that St. Louis, has ever seen. We will provide hope for the artists and showcase their talents in away that will bring them national fame and fortune. We want to represent all forms of musical talent and join with other Independent labels to give back to the communities that support the artists. Lock'Em Down Records Cousins John "Dump" Bacon, Jr. and Dewanzel "Jazz" Singleton are Co-CEO's that formed Lockem Down Records in 2001. They started the company after being asked by their siblings to be supporters and financial backers for a performance that had lost its backers. They liked being behind the scenes working to get their family members a start in the music business. While helping their family, they saw the pitfalls young people got into if they didn't have the right guidance and representation in the music industry. They saw it was difficult for the artist to concentrate on their musical performance and take care of the business side, too. They realized the difficulty of getting the exposure an artist needs, from helping with making contact with local deejays to booking to the local clubs. Dump and Jazz saw an opportunity to help the local talent in East St. Louis because has a wealth of talent that just needs the chance to show they are as good as St. Louis or any other city/region if given the chance. Dump and Jazz are filling that need as an independent record label. They are currently working with several artists who are ready to drop singles this summer. Their artists vary in styles from "Clever" a rapper to "Zion" a unique Reggae artist from the Virgin Islands with his "Muffin Style". They are producers with their own studio, which is an advantage for their artists. They are also working with other independent labels as promoters. Lockem Down Records is a fast growing independent label in the Midwest. They realize the music industry is watching and they are showcasing and representing East St. Louis' best artists.
