About Me

THE BAND

Charismatic, innovative and always compellingly authentic - with this unusual trio featuring his long-time musical partner harmonica maestro Steve Baker and percussionist Martin Röttger on cajon, Abi Wallenstein has created one of the most exciting acts on today’s European Roots Music scene.
Raw slide guitar entwined with pulsing dance beats, gutwrenching vocals framed by soulful harmonica lines combine to create an intense rhythm-based synthesis which is both highly individual and extremely refreshing. With their gripping mix of spontaneity, virtuosity and enthusiasm, Blues Culture have created their own interpretation of roots music in its widest sense, not a static structure but a vision which is in a state of perpetual development. Their music lives from the contrasting aspects of the sound, at one moment remarkably dense, the next moment displaying an airy openness reminiscent of dub. It gives all three protagonists ample opportunity to shine, both as soloists and in their ensemble playing.
Forget about categories - this highly infectious mix is something for fans of good hand-made music everywhere!
Vorsicht! Ansteckungsgefahr!

BluesCulture present a unique stylistic fusion which integrates deep delta blues with funk and hip-hop beats and rough-cut rock with heart-rending ballads. The dynamic interplay between the three musicians is unpredictable and gripping. Their spontaneity and energy create a fascinating blend of diverse musical elements which defies definition and breaks the boundaries of conventional stylistic clichés.

Current CD - "Blues Culture"

In April 2007 the CD "Blues Culture"won the quarterly German Record Critics Award. We're delighted by this recognition of our work.

The new CD is the first that Abi, Steve and Martin have recorded as BluesCulture, the line-up in which they have been performing upwards of 80 live shows per year since 2003, and finally captures their exciting ensemble playing on record. "blues culture" offers a new take on the blues, a boldly minimalist synthesis of archaic and modern forms which integrates elements from rock, soul and roots music.

BluesCulture's music is a refreshing and unconventional fusion which lives from the dynamic interplay between the musicians and allows them to shine both as soloists and as ensemble players. The collective experience gathered through their countless live performances over the last several years can be heard clearly here. With their spontaneous and groove-oriented approach, BluesCulture create their own vision of roots music!
