Ryan Abela's five-year meteoric rise to the top echelons of the Maltese DJ elite might read like nothing new on an island known to churn out one talent after another…that is, until you realise that Ryan is still only 21 years old!
His precocious talent for seamless mixing, spot-on music selection and moving crowds whenever he plays, started the first day he attended a DJ course under the tutelage of Malta's Number One deck spinner (and later friend and mentor) DJ Ruby. Recognising his pure talent, while being well known for the high standards he attains via his Pure Promotions venture and the events under that name, Ruby showed no hesitation in throwing DJ Ryan right in at the deep end of Maltese clubland by immediately exposing, the then 16-year-old prodigy, to huge crowds at events such as Ruby & Friends and Sunset Sundays, throughout which Ryan didn't disappoint one bit – a trait he still holds to this very day. In the process, DJ Ryan has solidified his position as a vital team player with both Pure Promotions and Malta's other Dance event powerhouse Fresh Music Agency, appearing at every main event on the Maltese Archipelago throughout his five-year tenure, whilst a string of residencies over those years in legendary local nightspots (such as Caesar's, Barcode and Peppermint Park, amongst others) have garnered him with an avid following that has made him a force to be continually reckoned with, among the very demanding clubbers that makes Malta one of the shiniest jewels in the Mediterranean clubbing crown.
Furthermore, DJ Ryan's infectious blend of Spanish-inspired Tribal and Progressive beats have also seen him behind the decks at Space Ibiza, Miss Moneypennys and Renaissance events. He has shared the bill together with internationally renowned DJs such as Desyn Masiello , DJ Chus , Nic Fanciulli , Dr . Kucho amongst others and has also successfully made his mark abroad as far as Sicily and Bulgaria . With all that covered and more to be achieved, DJ Ryan's impending foray into productions under his own name will surely be the next step that will elevate his reputation to stratospheric heights, despite his comparatively tender age…
